Ewan Mitchell explains how cold it was during his House of the Dragon nude scene
By Dan Selcke
House of the Dragon stars Ewan Mitchell (Aemond Targaryen) and Fabien Frankel (Criston Cole) went on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon the other night to talk up the HBO series, which is enjoying some great buzz thanks to its most recent, action-packed episode. It's a fun, breezy interview with some fun anecdotes (Fabien Frankel knocking back drinks with Danny DeVito on a plane) and behind-the-scenes details (the shot of Frankel "riding a horse" is something else):
As for Mitchell, he says that people are starting to clear the way for him even when he's in plainclothes. "People look at me like they wanna run away." Last week, Aemond tried to burn his own brother with dragonfire, so maybe the smallfolk of planet Earth are wary when they see him walking the halls of LAX. And it looks like Mitchell has dyed his hair Targaryen blonde, so the lines between him and his extremely intense character may seem a little blurred.
Mitchell also touched on Aemond's nude scene in last week's episode of House of the Dragon, "The Burning Mill." In that scene, Aemond's brother Aegon found him naked in a brothel. Aegon mocked his brother, but Aemond stood up defiant and stalked away, baring himself for all to see.
Apparently, things didn't go 100% according to plan on set. "I thought I'd walk in and it'd be the perfect temperature for those scenes, but during the shoot day, we went...to a different studio, and it's like a fridge freezer," Mitchell explained. "And it was a shock to the system, a shock to the naked body. I hope you enjoyed it and I hope my mother is okay with it."
Now, Mitchell doesn't say this explicitly, but I can't help but hear this and think of the well-documented effects of cold on male genitalia. And based on the way the audience gives a sympathetic "Ooooh," I think they were too.
I'll leave you with this cute sketch of Mitchell and Frankel planning a takeover of New York City:
