First image of Amanda Collin as Lady Jeyne Arryn in House of the Dragon season 2
By Dan Selcke
In the first season of House of the Dragon, in the fifth episode, Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) makes an offhand remark about claiming ownership over lands belonging to his late wife, Lady Rhea Royce. To do that, he'll have to talk to Lady Jeyne Arryn, who rules the Vale during this period in Westerosi history. You may remember that Lady Royce is "late" is because Daemon smashed her head in with a rock, so his plan is seen as distasteful, at best.
We don't actually see Lady Jeyne Arryn in the first season of House of the Dragon, but she plays a decent-sized role in George R.R. Martin's book Fire & Blood, and we've known for a while that she would appear in season 2, played by Raised by Wolves star Amanda Collin. Now, an image of Collin in her full Jeyne Arryn costume has been posted by the official HBO Max Adria account:
Who is Lady Jeyne Arryn?
The Arryns have ruled the Vale for centuries. Lady Jeyne became ruler of the Vale when she was very young, after her father and brothers were killed by rebellious mountain tribes. A few years older than Rhaenyra Targaryen, Lady Jeyne ruled under a regency until she came of age, whereafter she assumed power properly.
It's not easy ruling as a woman in Westeros, but Lady Jeyne managed it for years, putting down multiple rebellions from male relatives who coveted her seat. Rhaenyra and her probably have a few things in common. At the end of House of the Dragon season 1, Rhaenyra dispatched her son Jacaerys Velaryon to visit Lady Jeyne and try to win the Vale over Rhaenyra's cause. Perhaps that's when we'll see Lady Jeyne for the first time.
In Fire & Blood, it's heavily hinted that Lady Jeyne is gay, much in the way that it's hinted that Rhaenyra's first husband Laenor Velaryon was gay. In the show, Laenor's sexuality was made explicit, and we expect the same to happen with Lady Jeyne.
As for Amanda Collin, she is a talented actor who held down the absolutely bonkers sci-fi drama Raised by Wolves on Max. Whatever House of the Dragon gives her to do, she'll do it well.
Lady Jeyne Arryn is just one of many new characters joining the cast of House of the Dragon for its second season, which premieres on HBO and Max on Sunday, June 16. Get to know some of the other newcomers here:
