First look at Sadie Sink (Max) behind the scenes of Stranger Things 5
By Dan Selcke
The fifth and final season of Stranger Things is now deep into filming, which is exciting, but it also means that we probably won't see a new episodes until sometime in 2025. That means fans will have to wait a full three years to see how this tale of small town spookiness wraps up. Blame the pandemic. Blame the strikes. Blame the quest for perfection.
That said, after a long period of quiet, Stranger Things showrunners Ross and Matt Duffer are trying to get people excited again. Ross shared a few images from behind the scenes of season 5 on his Instagram account. Check 'em out:
The first image is the most notable. We see Sadie Sink (Max) and Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas) in what looks like a hospital room, with Sink lying on a bed. If you remember, the fourth season ended with Max facing down the otherworldly horror that is Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower). She survived the encounter, but barely, and was left in a coma. This shot was taken between takes; Ross Duffer was quick to confirm that Max is still comatose in the show. "And FYI this is a pic of Sadie, not Max. Max is in a coma," he wrote.
Yeah, but for how long? I doubt the show put Max in a coma just to leave her there all season, or to kill her without her ever waking up. The show has been pretty reluctant to kill characters in general. Remember when Sheriff Hopper (David Harbour) got exploded in an underground Soviet laboratory at the end of season 3 only to show up in a prison camp in season 4? And now he's back in the States and he's fine? Max is 100% coming out of that coma; if I had a farm I'd bet the farm on it.
That said, this will be the final season, so everyone is in more danger than normal. I just wish we didn't have to wait so long to see who makes it out of this alive.
