Game of Thrones: Kit Harington calls Jon Snow the "unfunniest character to have ever graced TV"

To be fair, Jon Snow doesn't often have many reasons to make jokes.

While we may have spent over a decade laughing at countless Jon Snow memes, Game of Thrones alum Kit Harington believes his character is indeed the single most sombre and glum person on our screens, and he's happy to move onto more comedic roles.

Jon Snow lives a dour life as a member of the Night's Watch, protecting Westeros from the horrors beyond the Wall. It's not a cheery existence. Moreover, he's been bullied, betrayed, and even murdered and revived over the years. Let's cut him some slack, he's got every reason to be the grumpiest man in the Seven Kingdoms.

After eight seasons of playing Jon Snow, star Kit Harington is relishing the opportunity to play very different types of characters. Specifically, he wants to get involved in more comedic projects. “I have played possibly the unfunniest character ever to have graced television,” he previously told Emmy magazine. “I love comedy. But Jon Snow is not a joke person.”

He went on to explain that new roles are “quite nice to subvert what people see him as” outside of Game of Thrones. Funnily enough, last year it was revealed that HBO was working on a Jon Snow sequel show, but the project was ultimately put on hiatus. It's unclear whether it'll come to fruition in the future, but certainly not anytime soon.

Harington recently weighed in on his time playing Jon Snow in Game of Thrones. The actor spoke candidly on the disappointing final season, admitting that certain elements were rushed and didn't hit the mark. "I think there were mistakes made, story-wise, towards the end maybe. I think there were some interesting choices that didn’t quite work," he said.

Fast forward to today, and Harington is making a name for himself outside Westeros. He's currently starring on the HBO series Industry as a morally flexible tech billionaire. He's also starring in The Beast Within, a horror movie with a twist on the werewolf trope from Alexander J. Farrell.
