Game of Thrones prequel star Dexter Sol Ansell shaves his head on camera for his role as Egg

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight starts shooting next month, and star Dexter Sol Ansell is taking his role as Aegon "Egg" Targaryen V seriously:

Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon returns for a second season next month, but HBO isn't stopping there. They've also greenlit another Game of Thrones prequel series called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight (that title may or may not get whittled down by the time of release; fingers crossed). Based on George R.R. Martin's Dunk and Egg novellas, the show is set some decades after the events of House of the Dragon but decades before the events of Game of Thrones. It follows a wandering knight named Ser Duncan the Tall, aka Dunk (Peter Claffey) and his diminuitive squire Aegon V Targaryen, aka Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell). No dragons, no White Walkers; the two wander around Westeros having adventures to the delight of all. It could be a smaller scale, more personal take on the Game of Thrones franchise.

Filming is set to begin in June, and the actors are getting prepared. Dexter Sol Ansell, who recently appeared as young Coriolanus Snow in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, has been active promoting his role in the show on social media, posting his reaction to learning to got the part. Now, he's posted a video of himself getting his hair shaved clean off, which is how Egg wears it. That's how he got the name "Egg" in the first place. Watch below:

Dexter Sol Ansell is frighteningly adorable here. In Martin's Dunk and Egg stories, Egg is the more worldly of the pair, despite being a kid. Egg grew up in the halls of power with his Targaryen family, while Dunk is something of a country bumpkin. Although he's a seven-foot-tall warrior so I wouldn't call him that to his face. Dunk and Egg have a bit of a brains and brawn dynamic going on.

We don't have a release date for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight just yet, but the second season of House of the Dragon bows on HBO and Max on Sunday, June 16. Our guess is that HBO wants to give fans a new season of Game of Thrones-themed TV every year, so look for the first season of The Hedge Knight (I hope that's what it ends up being called) to air sometime in 2025, followed by House of the Dragon season 3 in 2026.
