Game of Thrones veteran Emilia Clarke, who famously played the Mother of Dragons Daeneyrs Targaryen on the HBO mega-hit, has a new product in the chamber: PONIES is an espionage drama set in the 1970s coming to Peacock. Not only will Clarke star in the show, she'll also executive product.

What in the world is "PONIES" supposed to mean, you may ask. Apparently it's spy lingo for "persons of no interest," according to the official description of the show. Clarke will play one such PONI (is that the singular?), an "over-educated, Russian-speaking child of Soviet immigrants" named Bea who works as a secretary in the American Embassy. She has a cohort named Twila, a character who apparently been cast yet, "a small-town girl who is as abrasive as she is fearless." Both of their husbands in the USSR under mysterious circumstances. And who's going to solve their murders? Obviously, Bea and Twila are on the case. They both become CIA operatives and you better believe that they're going to blow the entire Cold War wide open!

PONIES was created by Susanna Fogel (The Flight Attendant) and David Iserson (Mr. Robot), who will both serve as writers; Fogel will direct and Iserson will be the showrunner. As I mentioned, Clarke will be an executive producer, so one assumes she'll have a bigger hand in the creative direction of the series that she did on something like Game of Thrones, which was was one of her first gigs out of university.

There's no release date for PONIES as of yet, but it sounds fun enough. Clarke's last big role was as G'iah in Secret Invasion, which is widely regarded as one of the weakest Marvel shows yet produced. Let's hope she gets better material with PONIES. This time, she'll be able to make sure that happens.
