Movies and TV shows are coming out, movies and TV shows are coming up. Today, let's take a look at some of the new trailers making the rounds on the internet, starting with a teaser for the fourth and final season of Netflix's dysfunctional superhero dramady The Umbrella Academy:
The Umbrella Academy has always been a fun watch thanks to the likable cast, sense of humor and twisty plot. In this final, six-episode season, the Hargreeves siblings once again have to prevent an apocalypse, so it's business as usual. We can rest easy knowing they'll do it with style.
The Umbrella Academy showrunner Steve Blackman has been under fire lately for allegedly creating a toxic work environment, so it's a good time for the show to be bowing out. The final six episodes drop August 8 on Netflix.
Watch the trailer for Gladiator II
Let's pivot into movies, starting with a trailer for Gladiator II, director Ridley Scott's sequel to his Academy Award-winning historical epic. It's been 24 years since the first Gladiator. What have we missed? Check it out:
There are some big names in the cast, including Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal and Denzel Washington. Can a movie like this break through in a movie environment that's changed a lot since 2000? Well, Gladiator II has a scene where a guy rides a rhino, so I'd say yes.
Gladiator II comes out in theaters on November 22.
Watch the trailer for Time Bandits
We end with a movie turned into a TV show, giving us the best of both worlds. Time Bandits is a beloved 1981 adventure/fantasy/comedy movie from Monty Python icon Terry Gilliam. Now, Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, the guys behind What We Do In The Shadows, are turning it into a TV series for Apple TV+, and I can't say I'm not intrigued.
The plot: an 11-year-old history buff named Kevin (Kal-El Tuck) joins up with a group of thieves who travel through time stealing stuff. The group is led by Lisa Kudrow, another good sign; no one does deadpan like Phoebe. Waititi and Clement will also show up, as is their wont. Watch the trailer below:
The first two episodes of Time Bandits drop on Apple TV+ on July 24. Two new episodes will drop every Wednesday until the series wraps up on August 21.
