The Harry Potter universe is bursting at the seams with fun and interesting characters, and many of them are members of the Order of the Phoenix.

The Order is a secret society that serves as the namesake of the fifth movie/book and was founded by Albus Dumbledore to oppose Lord Voldemort's rise to power. After decades of teaching and cultivating powerful allies in the wizarding world, Dumbledore organized them into the Order of the Phoenix in the 1970s to have a united force dedicated to stopping Voldemort from taking over the Ministry of Magic and terrorizing muggle-borns.

When Voldemort returned in the 1990s, Dumbledore got the band back together after Voldemort returned to full power in Harry Potter's fourth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. With the Minister of Magic Cornelius Fudge unwilling to even acknowledge Voldemort's return, the Order of the Phoenix served as Harry's main allies in the Second Wizarding War and many of them sacrificed their lives to ensure Voldemort's defeat.

With that being said, here is every single member of the Order of the Phoenix from the Harry Potter series during the second wizarding war.

1. Albus Dumbledore

The man who created the Order was of course Albus Dumbledore, who many regard as the most powerful wizard of all time and the only person Voldemort truly feared. But Dumbledore couldn't jump through the political hoops and fight the good fight on his own, so he enlisted dozens of witches and wizards he knew to help him collect information, protect important people and eventually lay down their lives in battle to stop the dark lord from taking over the wizarding world.

Dumbledore's list of accolades is extensive, but his secret society is certainly up there as one of the most important things he did in his 115 years. Perhaps one of Dumbledore's most heroic moments is when he led several Order members into the Department of Mysteries to save Harry and his friends from a group of Lord Voldemort's followers, called Death Eaters. In the book, Dumbledore single-handedly captured each Death Eater save Bellatrix Lestrange, who murdered Sirius Black and escaped. Dumbledore then engaged Voldemort in an epic duel and exposed his return to the Ministry.

Dumbledore continued to lead the Order until his death at the hands of Severus Snape in 1997. The Order outlived Dumbledore however, and its surviving members continued his legacy until Voldemort's defeat at the hands of Harry Potter in the Battle of Hogwarts.

2. Alastor 'Mad-eye' Moody

Alastor 'Mad-eye' Moody is arguably the most badass person in the entire Harry Potter franchise. He was one of Dumbledore's most trusted associates, a formidable dark wizard catcher generally regarded as one of the most capable wizards in the universe.

He's known for his gruff demeanor, constant vigilance, and distinctive magical eye, which can see through objects and detect deceit. Moody's eye symbolizes his constant wariness, reflecting his traumatic past filled with encounters with dark wizards that have left him both physically and emotionally scarred.

After his initial appearance in the fourth book, Moody is revealed to be an imposter. The real Moody is freed and joins the reorganized Order of the Phoenix to serve as the secret society's second in command behind Dumbledore. Moody brings his experience and skills to the Order, becoming a trusted ally to Harry Potter and his friends. He participates in several battles against Voldemort's forces, demonstrating his bravery and unwavering commitment to the cause.

Tragically, Moody meets his end during the Battle of the Seven Potters in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, where he sacrifices himself to protect Harry.

3. Severus Snape

Severus Snape is one of the most complex and enigmatic characters in the Harry Potter series. Introduced as the Potions Master at Hogwarts, Snape's dour demeanor and strict teaching style immediately set him apart from the friendlier teachers. However, his true allegiance and motivations remain shrouded in mystery for much of the series, making the twists of his story in the final books surprising and thought-provoking.

Throughout the books, Snape's past is gradually unveiled; we learn about his troubled childhood, his unrequited love for Harry's mother Lily, and his involvement with the Death Eaters. Snape's complicated relationship with Harry stems from his resentment towards Harry's father, James Potter, and his guilt over inadvertently leading Voldemort to the Potters' doorstep.

Despite his antagonistic behavior towards Harry and his friends, Snape ultimately proves to be a key player in the fight against Voldemort. He provides crucial information to Dumbledore, acting as a double agent within Voldemort's ranks. Snape's loyalty to Dumbledore is ultimately revealed when he kills the headmaster on Dumbledore's orders, a decision that cements his role as a tragic hero in the series.

In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Snape's true motivations and sacrifices are unveiled in a series of memories revealed by Dumbledore's Pensieve. It is revealed that Snape's love for Lily Potter drove his actions, as he vowed to protect her son, Harry, at all costs. Snape's death at the hands of Voldemort's snake, Nagini, is a poignant moment that underscores his redemption and ultimate heroism.

4. Remus Lupin

Remus Lupin is a beloved character known for his kind nature, wisdom, and struggles as a werewolf. Introduced in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Lupin becomes the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts, where he forms a close bond with Harry Potter and his friends during their third year at the school.

Lupin's compassionate and patient teaching style earn him the respect and admiration of his students, despite the prejudice he faces due to his condition as a werewolf. His struggles with lycanthropy serve as a metaphor for discrimination and marginalized identities, adding depth to his character and highlighting themes of acceptance and empathy.

Throughout the series, Lupin emerges as a key member of the Order of the Phoenix. He fights alongside Harry and his friends in several battles against Voldemort's forces, demonstrating his bravery and loyalty. Lupin's most significant storyline revolves around his relationship with Harry's parents, James and Lily Potter. He was one of James' closest friends during their time at Hogwarts. James, Sirius and Peter Pettigrew learned how to become animagi so Lupin wouldn't be alone in his werewolf form. Lupin's guilt over not being able to prevent the Potters' deaths adds a layer of complexity to his character and motivates him to protect Harry at all costs.

Tragically, Lupin meets his end during the Battle of Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, alongside his wife Nymphadora Tonks. His death is a heartbreaking moment that underscores the sacrifices made by those who fought against Voldemort's tyranny. Shortly before their deaths, Tonks gave birth to the pair's son Teddy, who was Harry's godson.

Although Lupin's story was particularly tragic, he was able to serve as a key mentor to Harry and his friends. His loyalty to Harry, Dumbledore and the Order was fierce.

5. Sirius Black

Introduced in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Sirius is initially believed to be a dangerous criminal responsible for the betrayal of Harry Potter's parents to the dark lord Voldemort.

However, as the series progresses, it is revealed that Sirius is in fact innocent of the crimes he was accused of. He was framed by his childhood friend and fellow Marauder Peter Pettigrew, who betrayed the Potters and faked his own death to avoid capture. Sirius' wrongful imprisonment in Azkaban for 12 years takes a toll on his psyche, but it also fuels his determination to seek justice and protect Harry.

Sirius' relationship with Harry is central to the series, as he serves as a father figure and mentor to the young wizard. Despite their short time together, Sirius forms a deep bond with Harry, offering him guidance, support, and a sense of belonging that he craves. Their relationship provides Harry with a connection to his parents and a glimpse into his own past. Sirius also provides his family home at 12 Grimmauld Place to Dumbledore to serve as the Order's headquarters.

Tragically, Sirius's life is cut short during the Battle of the Department of Mysteries in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. He falls through the veil in the Death Chamber while dueling with his cousin, Bellatrix Lestrange. Sirius' death is a devastating loss for Harry and his friends, but his memory lives on as a symbol of courage, loyalty, and the enduring power of love.

6. Minerva McGonagall

As the Deputy Headmistress and Transfiguration professor at Hogwarts, Minerva McGonagall plays a vital role in shaping the lives of Harry Potter and his classmates.

McGonagall is characterized by her strict demeanor, unwavering dedication to upholding Hogwarts' traditions, and her deep sense of integrity. Despite her stern exterior, she is a fair and compassionate teacher who genuinely cares for her students' well-being and academic success. Her expertise in Transfiguration, one of the most challenging subjects at Hogwarts, earns her the admiration and respect of her peers and students alike.

Throughout the series, McGonagall proves herself to be a formidable ally in the fight against Voldemort and his followers. She plays a crucial role in defending Hogwarts during the Battle of Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Her iconic duel with Severus Snape, who had seemingly betrayed the Order and aligned himself with Voldemort, is a standout moment that highlights her formidable magical abilities and fierce loyalty to Hogwarts and its values.

McGonagall remains a steadfast presence at Hogwarts, guiding and inspiring generations of young witches and wizards. Her character embodies principles of strength, resilience, and unwavering dedication to fighting for what is right, making her one of the most memorable and beloved characters in the series. After the events of the series, McGonagall succeeds Dumbledore and Snape by becoming the headmistress of Hogwarts.

7. Kingsley Shacklebolt

Kingsley Shacklebolt is introduced in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. He feeds the Order information from within the Ministry of Magic where he works as an Auror. Shacklebolt demonstrates exceptional magical abilities and a keen intellect, making him a valuable asset in the efforts to thwart Voldemort's plans. He plays a key role in protecting Harry Potter and his allies, participating in battles and covert operations to undermine Voldemort's influence.

Shacklebolt's leadership abilities and integrity are further showcased when he is appointed Minister for Magic following the fall of Voldemort in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. As Minister, he works tirelessly to rebuild the wizarding world and promote unity and reconciliation among its citizens.

Throughout the series, Shacklebolt is depicted as a calm and composed individual, capable of maintaining his composure even in the face of dangerous adversity. His unwavering dedication to justice and his willingness to stand up for what is right make him a respected figure among both wizards and Muggles alike.

8. and 9. Arthur & Molly Weasly

Arthur and Molly Weasley are known for their warmth, generosity, and fostering a loving family environment. As the parents of seven children, including Ron, Ginny, and the twins Fred and George, the Weasleys are very much willing to take in Harry whenever possible, acting as his adoptive parents for much of the story.

Arthur Weasley is depicted as a kind-hearted and eccentric wizard with a passion for Muggle artifacts and a deep curiosity about the non-magical world. He works for the Ministry of Magic in the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office, despite the low pay and lack of recognition. Arthur's fascination with Muggle technology often lands him in humorous situations but also highlights his open-mindedness and acceptance of all magical and non-magical beings.

Molly Weasley is the heart of the Weasley family, known for her fierce protectiveness and nurturing nature. She is a skilled witch who manages the household while also providing emotional support to her children and husband. Molly's homemade cooking and hand-knitted sweaters can be misleading, because she is also a formidable combatant. Although she certainly doesn't seek out fights, Molly succeeds where several other Order members failed when she vanquishes Bellatrix Lestrange during the Battle of Hogwarts.

Together, Arthur and Molly create a warm and welcoming home for their children and anyone else in need. Despite their limited financial resources, they prioritize family above all else, teaching their children the importance of love, loyalty, and resilience. Their home, the Burrow, becomes a sanctuary for Harry Potter and other members of the Order of the Phoenix, making them a constant for the other Order members.

Throughout the series, Arthur and Molly play crucial roles in the fight against Voldemort and his followers. They support their children's involvement in Dumbledore's Army and the Order of the Phoenix, while also facing their own challenges and dangers.

10. Rubeus Hagrid

Half-giant and half-human, Hagrid is known for his immense size, strength, and equally large heart. Expelled from Hogwarts during his third year, Hagrid was falsely accused of endangering students with a dangerous creature. Despite this setback, Albus Dumbledore allowed him to stay and work at the school.

Hagrid is fiercely loyal to Dumbledore and a dedicated friend to Harry, Ron, and Hermione. He introduces Harry to the wizarding world and remains a steadfast friend throughout the series. Hagrid has a deep affection for magical creatures, often adopting and caring for dangerous ones, such as his pet dragon Norbert and the giant spider Aragog.

Despite his gentle nature, Hagrid participates in several battles alongside other Order members during the Second Wizarding War. After Dumbledore is killed in the Battle of the Astronomy Tower, Hagrid carries his body to be interred at his funeral. Hagrid also accompanied Harry during the Battle of the Seven Potters, using his modified motorcycle to help keep Harry safe. Hagrid and his giant half-brother Grawp also participated in the Battle of Hogwarts, where he was forced to witness Harry sacrifice himself. Hagrid's former pet Buckbeak, his herd of Thestrals and his Centaur friends participate as well, proving Hagrid's love of animals was an extremely valuable asset in the end.

Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger form the central trio of the Harry Potter series, and their story lies at the center of the Order of the Phoenix. Their journey begins at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where they meet and become inseparable friends in their first year.

When the Order is revived by Dumbledore after the trio's fourth year, protecting Harry becomes the society's primary goal along with defeating Voldemort. As Harry's best friends, Ron and Hermione are at his side for nearly the entire conflict. When it becomes apparent that defeating Voldemort means destroying his seven horcuxes, Ron and Hermione willingly dropp everything to accompany Harry on his mission.

The three also participate in the Battle of Hogwarts, which saw the few remaining Order members eventually defeat Voldemort and his retainers.

11. Bill Weasley

Bill Weasley is the eldest son of Arthur and Molly Weasley. A former Hogwarts student, he was sorted into Gryffindor House and excelled in his studies, eventually becoming Head Boy. After school, he worked as a Curse Breaker for Gringotts Wizarding Bank in Egypt.

Bill is characterized by his adventurous spirit, bravery, and loyalty to his family and friends. He returns to Britain to aid the Order of the Phoenix in their fight against Voldemort. Bill's physical appearance is distinctive, with long hair and an earring, which reflects his unconventional and daring personality. He marries Fleur Delacour, a part-Veela witch, despite his family's initial reservations. Bill is severely injured by the werewolf Fenrir Greyback during the Battle of the Astronomy Tower but continues to fight valiantly for the Order, and is one of the few surviving members by the end of the main series.

12. Charlie Weasley

Charlie Weasley is the second eldest son in the Weasley family. He is described as stocky and good-natured, with a cheerful disposition and a thirst for adventure. A former Gryffindor student at Hogwarts, Charlie was a talented Quidditch player, serving as the team captain and Seeker. Known for his rugged, outdoorsy nature and passion for magical creatures, Charlie pursued a career as a dragon handler in Romania after graduating from Hogwarts.

His expertise and love for dragons are evident when he assists in transporting Norbert, Hagrid's baby dragon, to a safe location. Despite being away from his family, Charlie remains a devoted member of the Order of the Phoenix and is tasked with recruiting foreign wizards. During Bill's wedding to Fleur Delacour, Charlie returns from Romania to serve as his best man.

Charlie plays a vital role in the Battle of Hogwarts when the defenders are teetering from Voldemort's attacks and sustain heavy losses. Charlie and Horace Slughorn lead a group of hundreds of reinforcements made up of the residents of Hogsmeade and the family and friends of the Hogwarts defenders. This group turns the tide of the battle and eventually leads to Voldemort's defeat.

13. Fleur Delacour

Fleur Delacour is a French witch from the Beauxbatons Academy of Magic and is part-Veela, which grants her extraordinary beauty and the ability to enchant men. She first appears in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as one of the champions in the Triwizard Tournament, representing Beauxbatons. Despite initial perceptions of her as haughty and aloof, Fleur demonstrates bravery and skill throughout the tournament.

After the tournament, Fleur takes a job at Gringotts Wizarding Bank in Britain to improve her English, where she meets Bill Weasley. The two fall in love and get engaged, facing some initial resistance from the Weasley family, particularly from Molly and Ginny Weasley, who view Fleur as superficial. However, Fleur proves her loyalty and depth of character, especially after Bill is severely injured by the werewolf Fenrir Greyback. Her unwavering love for Bill and her determination to marry him despite his scars earn her the family's respect.

Fleur fights bravely in the Battle of Hogwarts, showcasing her courage and commitment to the fight against Voldemort. She and Bill survive the battle and go on to have three children: Victoire, Dominique, and Louis.

14. and 15. Fred and George

Fred and George Weasley are twin brothers known for their mischievous behavior and exceptional talent for pranks. Born to Arthur and Molly Weasley, they are the fourth and fifth of seven children. Both were sorted into Gryffindor House at Hogwarts, where they quickly became notorious for their humorous antics and disregard for rules. Despite their light-hearted demeanor, the twins are highly intelligent and resourceful, excelling particularly in creating magical jokes and inventions.

Their entrepreneurial spirit leads them to found Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes, a joke shop in Diagon Alley, after leaving Hogwarts prematurely in their sixth year. The shop becomes a tremendous success, demonstrating their business acumen and creativity. Their departure from Hogwarts is marked by a spectacular prank against Dolores Umbridge, the tyrannical High Inquisitor, which cements their legacy as school legends.

Fred and George are also loyal and courageous members of the Order of the Phoenix, actively participating in the fight against Voldemort and his Death Eaters. Their close bond and sense of humor provide much-needed levity during dark times. Tragically, Fred dies in the Battle of Hogwarts, leaving a profound impact on his family, particularly George.

George continues to run Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes after Fred’s death, though he is deeply affected by the loss of his twin. He eventually marries Angelina Johnson, a former Gryffindor Quidditch player, and they have two children, naming their son Fred in honor of his late brother.

16. Tonks

Nymphadora Tonks, commonly known as Tonks, is a young, vivacious witch. She is a Metamorphmagus, which means she can change her appearance at will. Tonks works as an Auror for the Ministry of Magic and is a dedicated member of the Order of the Phoenix.

Known for her quirky sense of humor and clumsiness, Tonks brings a light-hearted energy to the series. She falls in love with and marries Remus Lupin, despite his initial reluctance due to his werewolf condition. Together, they have a son, Teddy Lupin. Tragically, Tonks dies alongside her husband in the Battle of Hogwarts.

20. Aberforth Dumbledore

Aberforth was the younger and lesser-known brother of Albus Dumbledore. The irritable and rough Aberforth lived a quiet and reclusive life in Hogsmeade, running the Hog's Head Inn.

Aberforth's past is marked by tragedy, including the death of his sister Ariana, which strained his relationship with Albus. Despite their differences, Aberforth is loyal in the fight against Voldemort. He secretly aids the Order of the Phoenix and provides refuge to students and members during the Battle of Hogwarts.

21. Mrs. Figg

Mrs. Figg was a squib (a person unable to use magic born to magic-using parents) who lived near the Dursleys in Little Winging, and she frequently looked after Harry during his childhood. Harry was completely unaware of her affiliation with Dumbledore and the Order of the Phoenix, let alone the Wizarding world in general.

22. and 23. Dedalus Diggle and Hestia Jones

Dedalus Diggle and Hestia Jones were two members of the Order assigned to protect the Dursleys during the Second Wizarding War.

24. Elphias Doge

Elphias Doge attended Hogwarts alongside Albus Dumbledore in the late 1800s, becoming a close friend and confidant during their youth. Doge joined the Order during the First Wizarding War, and likely participated in several battles.

Doge again joined the Order when Dumbledore reconvened the secret society in the wake of Voldemort's return. He was part of the advance guard that escorted Harry Potter from his aunt and uncle's house in book five. Doge made one more appearance at Bill and Fleur's wedding at the Burrow before diapparating when a group of Death Eaters attacked.

25. Emmaline Vance

Another member of the Advance Guard, Emmaline Vance was considered a highly skilled witch and capable fighter for the Order. Unfortunately, Emmaline was murdered by Death Eaters near the home of the Muggle Prime Minister in 1996. It is implied that Severus Snape gave up her location to Voldemort, meaning she may have been sacrificed for the greater good to ensure that Snape stayed in Voldemort's good graces.

26. Sturgis Podmore

Sturgis Podmore was a wizard who was part of both iterations of the Order. During the fifth book, Podmore was assigned to guard the entrance of the Department of Mysteries to protect an important prophecy from Death Eaters. Death Eaters infiltrated the ministry and put Podmore under the Imperius Curse to get him to steal the prophecy. Podmore was caught and thrown in Azkaban. He was later exonerated and rejoined the Order.

27. Mundungus Fletcher

Mundungus Fletcher was by far the most controversial member of the Order, and distrusted by most of its members for his association with the criminal underworld. For whatever reason, Dumbledore trusted him and used his criminal connections to gather information for the Order during the First Wizarding War.

After Sirius Black' death, Mundungus began selling valuables from his house at 12 Grimmauld Place. After Harry caught him in the act, Fletcher disapparated and was later thrown into Azkaban. He reluctantly participated int he Battle of the Seven Potters and disguised himself as Harry like several of the other members. Wanting to keep the distrustful wizard in his sight, Alastor Moody insisted that Fletcher accompany him. This proved to be a fatal decision, as Fletcher immediately fled at the sight of the Death Eaters, allowing Voldemort to land a killing curse on Moody.

Later, Harry, Ron and Hermione were searching for a locket Voldemort had enchanted into a Horcrux that had been stolen by Fletcher. When confronted by the trio, Fletcher informed them that the locket had been taken by Dolores Umbridge.
