Warner Bros. Discovery is making a Harry Potter TV show it will air on its Max streaming service. J.K. Rowling's books about the titular boy wizard have never stopped being popular, and made Warner Bros. oodles of money with a hugely successful series of films. That could just be the beginning.
WBD announced the existence of the Harry Potter show pretty early on; it's only now zeroing in on someone to write and run it. According to Deadline, the three finalists are:
- Francesca Gardiner, a writer who's worked on shows like Succession, His Dark Materials, Killing Eve and The Man in High Castle as both a writer and a producer. It looks like she has the most impressive pedigree of the three.
- Tom Moran created Amazon series The Devil’s Hour, which starred Peter Capaldi. He also worked on the sci-fi series The Feed and the Rob Lowe cop drama Wild Bill.
- Kathleen Jordan created the Netflix series Teenage Bounty Hunters and is working on another called The Decameron.
Deadline has also heard that WBD is open to the idea of developing more than one idea based on Harry Potter, which isn't a surprise given how popular the franchise is. So more than one of these writers could walk away from this process with a job.
Max is aiming to air the Harry Potter series sometime in 2026. We'll hopefully hear about casting before the end of the year.
