House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones books on sale at deep discounts
By Dan Selcke
Summer is coming; in some places, it feels like it's already here. And as a heat burns through the United States, you have options: do you want to risk going outside and burning the skin off your back? Or do you want to crank up the AC as high as it will go and shrink into the shadows with a good book? Your body will be safe, but your mind will be enflamed!
If you're into the latter option, I have news for you: Amazon is running discounts on several books in the Game of Thrones universe, just in time for the return of HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon. You can pick up Fire & Blood, the book on which House of the Dragon is based, for $16.99, down from $22. This fake history of the Targaryen dynasty isn't written like a normal novel, but in the form of a history book compiled by a maester long after the fact. It's an interesting, fun read that stands alone, although it will also help parse through the differences in House of the Dragon. For good measure, the home video release of House of the Dragon season 1 is also on sale for $22.49, down from $29.99.
But back to books, Amazon is discounting the five novels yet released in Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series by nearly 50%, from $85 down to $46.29. The Song of Ice and Fire books were adapted as Game of Thrones...or at least these five were. Then HBO had to get creative and ad lib the rest of the series based on Matin's outline. He's been promising us a sixth book in the series, The Winds of Winter, for over a decade now. I wouldn't get excited about its arrival anytime soon, although hope (and rumors) spring eternal.
And if you'd rather read a new sci-fi or fantasy book, there's plenty that came out or are coming out this month:
