House of the Dragon gets series-high streaming ratings for season 2 premiere

The season 2 premiere of House of the Dragon brought series-high streaming ratings, and that's without counting the people who watched it linearly on HBO proper.

The second season of House of the Dragon is almost over, and we're only now getting official numbers from Nielsen, the most trusted name in TV ratings, concerning the week of June 17-23. The season 2 premiere of House of the Dragon, "A Son for a Son," dropped on HBO and Max on Sunday, June 16. How did it do?

Quite well! According to Nielsen, House of the Dragon racked up 1.23 billion minutes of viewing on Max the week after the season 2 premiere. That's a peak for the series. The previous streaming high came in season 1, when the show amassed 1.02 billion minutes viewed over the course of a week.

It should also be noted that this is counting streaming numbers only, not people who watched the episode linearally on HBO. True, that's fewer and fewer people these days as more folks switch to streaming-only TV diets, but it would still give the show another boost.

House of the Dragon wasn't the most-streamed show of the week, though. It came in fourth behind Bridgerton, which had just dropped the back half of season 3 a few days before; the Bryan Cranston legal drama Your Honor, which has found huge popularity on Netflix; and The Boys, which had dropped three episodes at once on June 13. Here's the top 10 most-streamed show of the week:

  1. Bridgerton (Netflix), 2.47 billion minutes viewed
  2. Your Honor (Netflix/Paramount+), 1.95 billion
  3. The Boys (Prime Video), 1.29 billion
  4. House of the Dragon (Max), 1.23 billion
  5. Bluey (Disney+), 1.11 billion
  6. Grey’s Anatomy (Hulu/Netflix), 929 million
  7. Criminal Minds (Hulu/Paramount+), 882 million
  8. NCIS (Netflix/Paramount+), 881 million
  9. Family Guy (Hulu), 877 million
  10. Bob’s Burgers (Hulu), 862 million

We know that the fourth episode of House of the Dragon season 2, "The Red Dragon and the Gold," was another ratings winner. With two episodes left in this season, can the show end on a high note?
