House of the Dragon season 2 is confirmed to premiere in June 2024

The wait for House of the Dragon season 2 is almost over. The new season is officially coming to HBO and MAX in June 2024!

According to a report from Variety, J.B. Perrette of Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed that the new season will launch sometime in June while speaking during Morgan Stanley’s Technology, Media and Telecom conference on March 4.

Unfortunately, HBO has yet to share the season 2 premiere date. And, that's even after the first trailer for the new season broke a MAX record for views back in December 2023.

The official season 2 release window comes after recent comments by HBO's Casey Bloys and Warner Bros. Discover CEO David Zaslav about the new season dropping in the second quarter of 2024. In February, Zaslav mentioned on an earnings call that they have "one of the best lineups in the history of HBO" starting in Q2 of 2024, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"This next quarter, we’ll have Hacks and House of the Dragon, followed by DC’s The Penguin and the new Dune series. Then in 2025, we’ll kick off the year with the new season of The White Lotus, followed by The Last of Us and Euphoria, just to name a few."

House of the Dragon season 2 will likely premiere on one of these five dates

Looking ahead at the June 2024 calendar, there are really only five dates that House of the Dragon season 2 could premiere now that we know the release month. We know that House of the Dragon season 2 episodes will be released on Sunday night. That's just what HBO does. There are five Sundays in June:

• Sunday, June 2
• Sunday, June 9
• Sunday, June 16
• Sunday, June 23
• Sunday, June 30

At this point, it would just be us guessing the premiere date. We won't do that, but the premiere date is one of those dates! That's super exciting!

Emma D'Arcy, Matt Smith, and Olivia Cooke are all back for season 2, along with Ewan Mitchell, Rhys Ifans, Tom Glynn-Carney, Matthew Needham, Phia Saban, Eve Best, Steven Toussaint, Bethany Antonia, Harry Collett, Phoebe Campbell, Fabien Frankel, and more. Newcomers for season 2 include Freddie Fox, Simon Russell Beale, Abubakar Salim, Gayle Rankin, and more.

There will be eight episodes in House of the Dragon season 2, which is unfortunately two fewer episodes than the first season. Based on when the season premieres, we'll see House of the Dragon season 2 over the course of eight weeks during June and July. That could extend into August, assuming season 2 doesn't premiere on June 2.
