House of the Dragon tops Bridgerton to become the No. 1 most streamed show or movie

For the week after the premiere of its second season, House of the Dragon was the most streamed show or movie out there.

Netflix's sexy period drama Bridgerton has had a death grip on the streaming charts ever since its third season premiered in May. It got another boost when more episodes dropped on June 13, but it's since been bumped out of the top stop by HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon, which premiered its second season on Sunday, June 16.

There was a lot of hype behind the return of House of the Dragon, so maybe it's only natural that it dominated the Top 10 Streaming Chart for the week of June 17-23, according to The Wrap. Here's the full Top 10:

  1. House of the Dragon
  2. Bridgerton
  3. Trigger Warning
  4. The Boys
  5. Hit Man
  6. Star Wars: The Acolyte
  7. Presumed Innocent
  8. Your Honor
  9. Perfect Match
  10. Tell Them You Love Me

As usual, Netflix dominates the chart, claiming six out of the 10 spots. The non-Netflix shows include House of the Dragon on HBO/Max, the superhero satire The Boys on Amazon Prime Video, the Star Wars show The Acolyte on Disney+, and the Jake Gyllenhaal legal drama Presumed Innocent on Apple TV+. All of those are TV shows. Movies on the list include Trigger Warning, Hit Man and Tell Them You Love Me.

The Boys is doing very well for Amazon, although I'm a little surprised that it's not doing even better considering Amazon dropped the first three episodes of season 4 together on June 13. It's hard to get one over on dragons and/or Netflix's massive subscriber base.

As for House of the Dragon, the challenge now is whether the show can keep up (or start up) a hot streak. Ratings are obviously strong, but they were still below the ratings for the series premiere back in 2022. Now that the novelty of having a Game of Thrones prequel show has worn off, the series will have to stand on its own two feet.

New episodes drop Sunday nights on HBO and Max.
