Game of Thrones had a total of eight seasons on HBO, changing the world of television forever since it started in 2011. The fantasy TV show based on the Song of Ice and Fire books written by talented author George R.R. Martin propelled the careers of many of its actors, including Emilia Clarke, Pedro Pascal, Jason Momoa, Joseph Quinn and Bella Ramsey.

The cast also included pretty well-known talents such as Sean Bean, Peter Dinklage, Charles Dance, and Lena Headey. The series followed several families warring for one throne: the Iron Thorne to be exact. What follws is bloodshed, betrayal, violence and sex.

Characters were complex, problematic, inspiring, despised, and romantic, with many being downright unforgettable, for better or worse. Although many argue that the final season was a terrible way to conclude such a successful series, there is no doubt that the Game of Thrones legacy will live on in infamy.

Let's talk about how much money George R.R. Martin is making from Game of Thrones

Thus, we can only assume that George R. R. Martin must have made a pretty penny from the show, but exactly how much? The first thing we wanted to look at was his net worth.

According to Market Realist, as of the end of 2023, Martin's net worth was $120 million, with his yearly take-home at $25 million. If we want to break it down a little bit more, Parade says that, "Martin reportedly made $15 million per season of Game of Thrones (there were eight of them)."

That's not including the $10 million he makes annually from book sales. Now that Games of Thrones has concluded, the next installment of the franchise, the prequel series House of the Dragon, is already catching fire. That show is based on another of Martin's books, Fire & Blood, which we can rest assured will experience healthy sales for as long as House of the Dragon remains popular.

The second season of House of the Dragon will premiere on HBO and Max on June 16. Who knows, maybe one day Martin will write more A Song of Ice and Fire books and increase his net worth even further.
