Jacob Anderson gets the Game of Thrones backlash, but still thought the ending was 'pretty fun'

"I understand why people were disappointed with certain things, but I thought it was a pretty fun way to end it, to be honest."

It's been five years since the end of Game of Thrones, and it's still one of the most divisive conclusions to any TV show ever. A lot of people were not happy with the way things wrapped up, whether with the actual turns of the plot — Daenerys Targaryen burning down King's Landing and getting killed by Jon Snow, Bran Stark becoming king, etc — or with the way they were executed. The cast and crew will probably get asked about the ending for the rest of their careers.

Case in point: Jacob Anderson, who's currently tearing it up as Louis in the AMC show Interview With The Vampire, was asked by Men's Health whether he expected mixed reactions to the Game of Thrones series finale, where he played Daenerys' faithful right-hand man Grey Worm. "Yeah," Anderson said simply. "100%."

"As soon as we got the scripts, I was like, this is going to be some real marmite," Anderson continued. "People are going to either love this or hate this. And for me, I find that really exciting. That's my favorite kind of thing. When you're like, ‘This shouldn't work' or 'This feels risky.’ It feels kind of punk to just throw the rule book out. I understand why people were disappointed with certain things, but I thought it was a pretty fun way to end it, to be honest."

Anderson felt similar when he received the scripts for Interview With The Vampire, which go far afield on Anne Rice's source material in some exciting, risky ways. "I love things like that. So there's a little demon in me that when I read the Season 8 scripts for Game of Thrones, I was like, 'Cool, let's go. Let's do it.'"

With the success of Interview With The Vampire, which airs new episodes of its second season Sundays on AMC, Anderson has joined the ranks of Game of Thrones veterans making the most of their post-Thrones fame. John Bradley (Sam) appeared in the Netflix show 3 Body Problem, Bella Ramsey (Lyanna Mormont) is headlining the HBO show The Last of Us, and of course Pedro Pascal (Oberyn Martell) is in every other movie and TV show released these days; soon enough, he'll play Mister Fantastic in a new Fantastic Four movie for Marvel.
