Jalic Blades is a company that makes replicas of famous weapons from fantasy shows, movies, and books. They sell blades modeled off weapons from The Wheel of Time, The Witcher, The Kingkiller Chronicle and Game of Thrones. Now, they've announced their first blade modeled after a sword from HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon: Dark Sister, the Valyrian steel sword wielded by Daemon Targaryen:

Dark Sister was first wielded by Visenya Targaryen when she conquered the Seven Kingdoms alongside her brother Aegon (the first one) and her sister Rhaenys Targaryen (ditto) some 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones (and 150 before House of the Dragon). Aegon became the first ruler to sit the Iron Throne, which he forged from the blades of his defeated enemies. Visenya would pass Dark Sister onto her son Maegor the Cruel, who has a reputation as one of the worst rulers in the history of Westeros. The sword passed through the hands of various Targaryen heirs over the years until it found its way to Daemon, who uses it to gleefully slice up anyone who looks at him funny.

And now it can be yours...when the swords actually start shipping in the third quarter of 2024. Right now, Dark Sister is only available for pre-order.

It comes in two varieties: Stainless Steel and Damascus Steel, which is a more complicated way of making swords that bears some resemblance to how artisans in Westeros make Valyrian Steel weapons. Whichever version you choose, the blade of the Dark Sister replica is 32 inches, and the whole sword is 44 inches if you include the hilt, which has a leather-wrapped grip and cast metal handle parts. The sword also comes with a plaque of silkscreened Wood with a Targaryen sigil on it, so you can mount it on your wall and strike fear into the hearts of your enemies.

The difference is that the Stainless Steel version costs $300 while the Damascus Steel version costs $800, so it's pricy either way and really pricy if you want the fancy metal. Also, only 2000 Damascus Steel versions of Dark Sister will be produced, which makes it something of a collector's item, further driving up the price.

It's no coincidence that we're getting a sword from House of the Dragon now, since the second season premieres on HBO and Max on Sunday, June 16. We're about to watch Daemon put Dark Sister to bloody work, and Jalic Blades is aiming to ride the hype. I'll end by quoting the Jalic Blades website with what seems like good advice for anyone who wants to buy a sword: "This item is not a toy. Please keep out of the reach of children."
