Javier Bardem is reportedly being considered as Galactus in Fantastic Four
By Ariba Bhuvad
The Fantastic Four is headed back to the big screen, and fans are ecstatic. Yes, there have been previous attempts, and while they have more or less failed in some capacity, there are very high hopes for this one.
On Valentine's Day this year, Marvel made an epic announcement revealing the long-rumored cast for the upcoming film. For months it was speculated that Pedro Pascal would be playing Mister Fantastic and Vanessa Kirby would be cast in the role of Sue Storm. Lo and behold, this turned out to be true, along with the news that Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/Thing) were a part of the cast as well.
But now that the main cast of heroes has been revealed, Marvel fans are setting their eyes on who will be playing the big bad villain. In the past, Marvel has struggled with villains and often over-promised and underdelivered (cough, Gorr the God Butcher, cough). However, for the Fantastic Four, the tides could be turning, or so we hope.
Marvel comic book fans know that Galactus and Doctor Doom are two major villains in the world of Fantastic Four, and have both appeared in television shows and/or movies over the years. So it only makes sense that we'd see both of them or one of them in the upcoming film, right?
Rumors have been circulating about who may play the role of one of the villains, and I am super excited about the prospect. Take a peek below to discover who may be under Marvel's watchful eye to play the role of...Galactus.
Who is being considered for the role of Galactus in Fantastic Four?
According to Jeff Sneider from The InSneider, Marvel is reportedly considering Dune star Javier Bardem to play the role of the Devourer of Worlds, aka Galactus. I don't know about any of you, but this sounds pretty darn perfect.
Marvel's official description of Galactus is, "Known as the Devourer of Worlds, Galactus has become one of the most feared beings in all of existence as he travels from planet to planet, gobbling them up with no care for the inhabitants and only a concern for his own appetites."
Doesn't that sound like a role fit for Bardem?!
However, we ought to temper our expectations as this is not officially confirmed and there may be one tiny problem preventing Bardem from taking the role. There could be a scheduling conflict with another movie he's doing for Apple titled F1. If they can work this out, then it might just be the best thing to happen for Marvel, so we will keep our fingers crossed.
What is Marvel's Fantastic Four about?
As of now, we do not know any plot details regarding the film. That is being kept under wraps for now so we will have to wait to see what Marvel decides to reveal in the coming days and months. If I had to guess, I'd say circa San Diego Comic-Con this year we will learn everything we need to about this and other Marvel properties (finally!).
What we do know is the official cast playing the First Family and that WandaVision's Matt Shakman is all set to direct the project. Shakman has given fans a little bit of a tease as to what to expect, saying, "It's different in so many ways. I wish I could be specific. I wish I could say more. But we are doing things very differently from a story standpoint, from an approach to the filmmaking standpoint, that really fits the material. I wish I could say more. I would love to, but I can't. But I think it's going to be unlike anything you've seen before, and certainly unlike anything at Marvel that you've seen before."
Sign us up, Shakman!
Fantastic Four is is scheduled to release on May 2, 2025 (we hope!).
