Milly Alcock's Supergirl to be the second movie released in new DC Cinematic Universe
By Dan Selcke
After some tumultuous ups and downs, James Gunn and Peter Safran are remaking the DC Cinematic Universe in their image. We have a new Superman in the form of David Corenswet, who will make his debut as the Man of Steel in a movie simply called Superman, out on July 11, 2025. Also in that movie, we'll meet Clark Kent's cousin Kara, aka Supergirl, played by Milly Alcock.
Alcock played young Rhaenyra Targaryen in the first season of House of the Dragon, so she already has experience flying through the sky and being a badass. After debuting in Superman, Alcock will get her own movie in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which will come out on June 26, 2024. That makes it the second movie to be released in Gunn's new DCU. Gunn and Safran are also working on a new Batman movie called The Brave and the Bold, a Swamp Thing movie, a Booster Gold movie, and more.
And none of these movies are set in the same universe as The Batman movies starring Robert Pattinson or the Joker movies starring Joaquin Phoenix, both of which are cordoned off in their own continuties. It's getting confusing up in here. To simplify, here's a list of the DC movies coming up over the next couple of years:
- Joker 2: Folie à Deux: Oct 4, 2024
- Superman: July 11, 2025
- Supergirl: World of Tomorrow: June 26, 2026
- The Batman: Part 2: Oct 2, 2026
So again, while Superman and Supergirl: World of Tomorrow are set in the same universe and will connect, Joker 2 and The Batman: Part 2 are doing their own things. Movies like The Brave and the Bold, Swamp Thing and Booster Gold will all be part of that wider DCU that includes Superman and Supergirl.
One thing we don't have is a picture of MIlly Alcock as Supergirl. We'll have to wait for that, although we do have an image of David Corenswet as Superman:
Just Superman putting on his boots, going to deal with another alien invasion. Same old, same old.
