Negan reclaims Lucille in The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2!
By Ashley Hurst
The Walking Dead is currently well into its spinoff era following the conclusion of the main show. There's Daryl Dixon, which follows the title character to France, the return of RIck and Michonne in The Ones Who Live, and of course, Maggie and Negan's New York adventures in Dead City.
Dead City was the first post-Walking Dead spinoff to air, and it'll soon return for its second season. The debut season was a success, setting a high standard for each spinoff to follow. The story was intriguing, the set pieces magnificent, and setting it in Manhattan showed us a new corner of The Walking Dead world. All in all, it got decent reviews, though perhaps not as good as those for Daryl Dixon.
In Dead City season 1, Maggie (Lauren Cohan) enlisted the assistance of enemy Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) in helping her reclaim her son Hershel, who was kidnapped by a community in Manhattan. By the end of the series, Hershel was saved, but Negan remained in Manhattan after being offered a role of high importance by The Dama. Fast forward to season 2, and Negan finds himself back in a position of power...and based on this video from the set, he's carting around Lucille, his famous barbed wire bat.
Negan being reunited with Lucille is something fans never thought they'd see again. Back in The Walking Dead season 10 episode, "Here's Negan," we saw him throw the bat into a fire, burning away that part of his life. To bring Lucille back feels almost like a betrayal to the conclusion of that story. But we don't know the plot of Dead City yet...it could make sense.
Before Dead City returns to our screens, we'll first see season 2 of Daryl Dixon, subtitled The Book of Carol. The new season is set to premiere this Summer on AMC, though no specific release date has been set. In the meantime, watch the teaser above.
