Netflix's Daredevil is part of the MCU's "Sacred Timeline," producer confirms

Netflix's Daredevil series is one of the greatest superhero shows ever made. But now Charlie Cox's hero is entering the all-encompassing Marvel Cinematic Universe. Does this mean the original Daredevil series is canon, or is it being left behind?

Soon, Charlie Cox will make his next appearance as Daredevil in Echo, a smaller-scale show set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Cox's Daredevil has already made a couple of showings in the MCU's main continuity, including a cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home and a larger role in She-Hulk. His role in Echo is set to be his most significant since the original Netflix Daredevil ended and the superhero joined Disney's 'Sacred Timeline.'

With a rare TV-MA rating, Echo seems to have exactly the same feel as Netflix's Daredevil show. It's brutal, gruesome and gritty. Plus, it marks the return of Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio), who makes his second MCU appearance after playing the central villain in Hawkeye. The latest teaser focuses on the relationship between Echo and Kingpin, featuring a blink-and-you'll-miss-it shot of Daredevil in action:

Speaking to ScreenRant, Echo executive producer Brad Winderbaum weighed in on how the original Daredevil series fits into the main continuity. Marvel Studios has been sensitive over confirming things regarding the timeline in recent years.

"I can say that up until this point, we've been a little bit cagey about what's Sacred Timeline, what's not Sacred Timeline. That was born of, frankly, a period at the studio where we were like, 'We have to stick the landing with the vendors.' It was another part of the company developing the Netflix stuff. We were aware of what they were doing, they were aware of what we were doing, but there was a lot to balance anyway."

Turns out that Winderbaum considers the Netflix Daredevil show to be fully integrated into the MCU. "But now that some time has passed; now that we see actually how well integrated the stories are, I think that I personally, Brad Winderbaum, would be confident in saying it is part of the Sacred Timeline," he confirmed.

Of course, Marvel Studios has a huge plan in place for Daredevil. The hero is getting his very own, 18-episode reboot series called Daredevil: Born Again. But before that, he will feature prominently in Echo, which premieres January 9 on Disney+ and Hulu.
