This Sunday, the second season of House of the Dragon will air on HBO and Max. That will run for eight weeks, after which we'll have to wait heaven knows how long for more new episodes. How will HBO entertain us in the meantime? How, I ask?

Well, they have a plan. HBO has greenlit a new Game of Thrones spinoff show called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, based on George R.R. Martin's Dunk and Egg novellas. These novellas are about a knight named Ser Duncan the Tall and his deminuitive squire, named Egg, as they wander around the Seven Kingdoms having adventures. The stories are much more relaxed than anything in Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon, where the fate of the country or even the human race is at stake. Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell will play lead Dunk and Egg respectively.

We've known for a while that HBO was due to start shooting A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms sometime this month. According to reliable scoop site Redanian Intelligence, it has begun:

Apparently shooting will run through September, which is a relatively quick turnaround so far as shows set in Westeros go. Again, these stories are smaller in scale than what we're used to; the first season of the show will run for six episodes, very likely sometime in 2025. That should help bridge the gap to the next season of House of the Dragon, which is HBO bigger, more spectacular effort to keep the Game of Thrones franchise alive.

The Dunk and Egg novellas are set decades after the events of House of the Dragon but decades before the events of Game of Thrones. Honestly, the novellas are so short and charming I wonder if they wouldn't work better as movies than as a TV series, but HBO will do as it wilt.

Next. One big way House of the Dragon is the opposite of Game of Thrones. One big way House of the Dragon is the opposite of Game of Thrones. dark
