New images from the set of The Sandman season 2!
By Ashley Hurst
The cast and crew of Netflix's The Sandman have been hard at work since filming the next batch of episodes. With lots of shooting taking place on-location in England, we're starting to get new glimpses of the sets, and hints of the stories that will be told in season 2.
Redanian Intelligence brings us some high quality first-looks photos. The production has picked some incredible locations, including the Royal Pavillion in Brighton. While we don't know exactly what they're filming at the Pavillion, the building certainly suits the ethereal aesthetic of The Sandman, based on the comics by Neil Gaiman. It could perhaps be the setting of the "Ramadan" story, or perhaps a look at Destiny's realm. Whatever it is, the gardens have been coated in copious amounts of fake snow. See for yourself:
Additionally, filming has also recently taken place in Bourne woods in Surrey. Bourne wood is a popular filming location for fantasy projects. House of the Dragon filmed a huge battle scene there for its upcoming second season. Here's our glimpse of The Sandman filming at Bourne woods:
The story that The Sandman seems to be adapting in Bourne woods is a continuation of Shakespeare's brief appearance in the season 1 episode "The Sound of Her Wings." Given the set pieces and location, we can deduce that they're filming the story "A Midsummer Night's Dream," in which Morpheus (Tom Sturridge) invites the people of the Faerie to watch a performance of Shakespeare's famous play. The story is one of the most beloved in The Sandman's entire run. In fact, the issue was the first-ever comic to win the World Fantasy Award, vaulting the series' success to new heights.
There's also an image of Sturridge himself on set at the Royal Pavillion.
The Sandman season 2 is expected to premiere sometime in 2025. In the meantime, later this year Netflix will premiere the first season of Dead Boy Detectives, a show set within the Sandman universe.
