Outlander kicks off filming on final season with behind-the-scenes video

We won't see the final season of Outlander for a while yet. And we won't see the rest of season 7 until this November.

Outlander, based on the books by Diana Gabaldon, has been running since 2014, serving up six-and-a-half seasons of time-traveling romance. Fans have taken the characters of Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) into their hearts, and it's going to be hard to say goodbye when the show wraps up with season 8.

And the end is approaching. Starz just put up a behind-the-scenes video showing the cast and crew getting to work on the final episodes:

Given that sets are still "under construction" and everyone seems to be making costumes and getting the props together, it doesn't seem like the cameras have actually started to roll on the eighth and final season. But the video advises that the show is "in production," so things are moving. Start the countdown.

Outlander season 7 part 2 won't air until November

We don't know when the eighth and final season of Outlander will premiere, but if they're already working on it this early in 2024, there's hope that we'll be watching the final adventures of Jamie and Claire sometime in 2025.

And remember: we still have the second half of season 7 to get through, too. This super-sized, 16-episode season was divided into two halves. The first half wrapped up in August of last year with Jamie and Claire setting sail for Scotland. According to the Instagram post above, which shows our cast and crew in costume behind the scenes of season 7, the back half won't start airing until this November.

That's probably later than some fans wanted, but hopefully once new episodes start dropping Starz can get on a roll right through to the end of the series.
