Fellow Outlander fans, it has been quite the Droughtlander, but there is an end in sight as the second half of season 7 is set to premiere in November. The wait has been excruciatingly long. However, the end is nigh, and we have about four more months until it's over.

But with the completion of season 7 means Outlander is one more season away from ending its run. It is a bittersweet moment for fans of the time-traveling romance series, but not all hope is lost. As you may know, we've got an Outlander prequel to look forward to, and there are some exciting updates about its release date and the freshman season's episode count.

First things first, we do not have to wait until Outlander airs its final season to get the first season of its prequel series. In fact, Blood of My Blood will premiere in 2025, setting the stage for the events that take place before the love story of Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe). Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend, executive producer Ronald D. Moore said that the first season has wrapped filming and is now in the post-production phase, being prepped for the world to see next year. In addition to this update, Moore also shared how long the season will be: 10 episodes!

Now, fans may be wondering why the count is low, but I will say, it is two episodes longer than what Outlander has had over the last few years so I'll take it!

The first season of Outlander prequel Blood of My Blood will be 10 episodes long

Moore shared the 10-episode count was due to “a combination of factors." He continued, “There’s what the network wants to do, what fits on their schedule, then it becomes a budgetary question, and then a practical question." Moore went on to say that admittedly “it was a complicated formula to get to the number.”

Whatever the episode count may be, we are just excited to delve into the story involving both Claire and Jamie's parents. Not much is known besides the series continuing to go back and forth between two timelines; we don't know if there will be any time travel involved. Wouldn't it be amazing to learn whether Jamie and Claire had a connection before they were even around? I would love to see that!

The series will also be bringing back younger versions of characters such as Murtagh and other members of the MacKenzie clan, which will be great to see. I personally think getting the fictional history of the characters from the flagship show will make this world so much more exciting than it already is. It will bring forth this element that we haven't had the opportunity to explore before, and I cannot wait until it premieres in 2025!
