Sam Heughan is in his feels when it comes to Outlander ending after its eighth and final season. During The Land Con 6 in Paris, Heughan opened up about how he is handling the series coming to an end after nearly 11 years.

“It’s really hard for me. We had a read-through where… all the cast sits around a table and we read the episode so that everyone can hear it, but they made it a very special occasion,” shared Heughan. “We were on a castle set, so we’re in this magnificent castle in the studio, and they had a bagpipe player… they were playing ‘The Skye Boat Song,’ the theme tune, and I just… I was gone, I started crying.”

I can absolutely understand that sentiment, especially after Heughan spent more than a decade on this show. Even Heughan couldn't have imagined Outlander's impact on people worldwide. The series as well as the books by Diana Gabaldon have prompted world travels, Outlander-themed weddings, and so much more. This show has left its mark on the world, and even as we get ready to say goodbye, it feels all too soon.

But the good news is that we still have a lot of Outlander to look forward to (including Heughan's costar Caitriona Balfe directing in the final season!). While the cast and crew will say goodbye much earlier than the fans, we still have Season 7, Part 2, ahead of us, along with the final season sometime after that. After the flagship series ends, we've got Outlander: Blood of My Blood, the prequel series currently filming in Scotland that focuses on Jamie and Claire's parents. I must say I am very excited about that one. It will be a treat to see a different side to this story!
