Erin Moriarty, who plays the superhero Starlight on The Boys, recently posted some new photos on Instagram. Some fans think the new photos, which appear to show off what look like Moriaty's smaller nose and fuller lips, are evidence that she has had plastic surgery.
Some people have bemoaned Moriarty's choice to get surgery, if that's what's happened. Others have come to her defense. "As regards Erin Moriarty Obviously she can do what she wants, but the bigger issue is why women feel that they need to change their appearance," one tweeted. "I mean…harass and tell a woman she’s ugly in her natural state and what do you think she’s gonna do about it?" wrote another, linking to an article where Moriarty talks about feeling dehumanized by fans trolling her. "I don't understand this huge outcry over Erin Moriarty's plastic surgery," wrote a third. "If she likes it, who are we to question her choice? She looks beautiful either way to me."
"I will never forgive straight men for bullying Erin Moriarty for getting work done just because they didn’t find her pretty enough for her Starlight role," wrote one user on Twitter/X. "Why would you ruin your face like this? This is Erin Moriarty from The Boys...she was already very pretty," wrote another. "This is sad. ‘The Boys’ actress Erin Moriarty is literally unrecognizable now," wrote a third. And so on.
We don't actually know for sure if Moriarty had plastic surgery or not. The smaller nose and fuller lips could be the result of makeup, lighting, or aging; Moriarty is 29 now, whereas she was in her early '20s when she filmed the first season of The Boys.
The fourth season of The Boys will air sometime this year, although we don't have an exact release date yet. That's kind of odd given that filming on the finale wrapped up in April of last year; surely we'll hear something concrete soon.
In addition to The Boys, Moriarty has also had roles on shows like True Detective and Jessica Jones as well as movies like Catching Dust and Monster Party. She'll also appear in an upcoming horror movie called True Haunting.
