Relax: There is no Dune 2 after credits scene

Dune: Part Two does not have an after-credits scene, so you might as well book it to the car and beat the rush.

Ever since Nick Fury showed up at the end of Iron Man in 2008 to recruit Tony Stark into the Avengers, viewers know to stay past the credits just in case there's some surprise in store. Is it even a movie if Samuel L. Jackson doesn't turn up after it's over to tease another movie?

As it ends up, yes. This weekend, fans are going to movie theaters to watch Dune: Part Two, director Denis Villenueve's adaptation of Frank Herbert's classic 1965 sci-fi novel Dune. If you're wondering, there is no post-credits scene for Dune: Part Two. What you see is what you get.

That doesn't mean that there won't be a sequel. In fact, Villeneuve has been open about his desire to adapt the Dune sequel Dune Messiah for the big screen, so we should expect Dune: Part Three sometime in the future. But Villeneuve didn't feel the need to tease that with a post-credits sequence.

Personally, I think that's refreshing, and I wonder if post-credits sequences are on their way out. They were a product of the Marvel boom, and Marvel is currently reformatting itself in an attempt to win back fans who'd grown tired of its formula. I think other studios will rethink things too. If that means harkoning back to an earlier period where movies weren't quite as obvious about immediately trying to hook you for a sequel, that's fine by me.
