Next week, Amazon Prime Video will release a new show based on Fallout, the popular video game series where players explore a ruined apocalyptic landscape, meeting all kinds of memorable characters on the way. Equally, the Fallout games are equal parts grim action and zany humor, and based on the trailer it looks like the TV show has made efforts to capture that feeling:
And you can soak up those vibes for eight hours straight on Thursday, April 11, because Amazon is dropping all eight episodes of the Fallout show at once on the same day. Here's the release schedule, such as it is:
- Episode 1: Thursday, April 11, 2024
- Episode 2: Thursday, April 11, 2024
- Episode 3: Thursday, April 11, 2024
- Episode 4: Thursday, April 11, 2024
- Episode 5: Thursday, April 11, 2024
- Episode 6: Thursday, April 11, 2024
- Episode 7: Thursday, April 11, 2024
- Episode 8: Thursday, April 11, 2024
The obvious question here is why Amazon would choose to release all the episodes at once? It's common enough during the binge era of streaming TV, sure, but generally speaking, Amazon spaces things out a bit more. Amazon will often release the first few episodes of a new season of TV all at once — that's what it's done with shows like The Boys and The Wheel of Time — but after that, new episodes commonly come out at a rate of one per week.
So why is it different with Fallout? Well, maybe Amazon just wanted a change. That's the optimistic view. The pessimistic view is that the Fallout show isn't very good, Amazon knows it isn't very good, and they want to burn off all the episodes quickly so people move on. We'll find out the details on April 11.
