Robert Kirkman: Invincible could run for up to 8 seasons, maybe more

Prime Video's Invincible is one of the best superhero shows in the world right now, and it's here to stay. Expect 7 or 8 seasons, and possibly even more!

Invincible creator Robert Kirkman is no stranger to seeing his comics get adapted for television. Of course, he's previously seen enormous success with The Walking Dead, which ran for 11 seasons and continues through spinoffs today.

However, with Invincible, he's adapting a completed comic run, which allows for precise planning. This is something The Walking Dead writers couldn't do, as he was still writing the comic as the show aired. The Invincible team has the benefit of a full set of comics and a definitive conclusion to work towards. Fans will be glad to know that the story the show has covered so far is minimal. There's still many seasons worth of content to adapt.

GamesRadar about Kirkman how many seasons he expects Invincible to run. "I mean, there's certainly a number that I feel would get me to the end of the comics – Season 7, Season 8-ish is what I’m looking for," he said.

With that said, Kirkman isn't strict with his estimate. Should Prime Video want to commission additional seasons, he wouldn't be against the idea. The more, the merrier! "If we get in there and we're still having a lot of fun and Prime Video still likes us, [it] could go even longer."

While Invincible has a very definitive ending, Prime Video could seek to expand the story in other ways. They could create a completely original story continuing the adventure. Or spinoffs could be in order. Invincible has plenty of spinoff comics. Moreover, Prime Video has already pursued one spinoff project: the Atom Eve origin story special. Personally, I think an Omni-Man prequel would be fantastic!

Every episode of Invincible season 3 "feels like a finale"

By the end of Invincible season 2, Mark Grayson is left on Earth to prime it for Viltrumite takeover, a task he's unwilling to fulfill. Meanwhile, Omni-Man has defected from his Viltrumite position and is now an enemy to his people. All-out-war looms. According to Kirkman, each episode in season 3 will have the feel of a finale.

"The stakes of the season are really high and the content of the season is really dense," he said at San Diego Comic-Con. "So we've set up a lot of stories in season 1 and season 2 that are kind of coming to a head in season 3. And so in a lot of ways, every episode does kind of feel like a finale."

Invincible season 3 is expected to premiere sometime in 2025. No release date has been set yet. "I'm really excited to finally get to see season 3 because it's gonna be crazy," Kirkman concluded.
