Ruin friendships and smite your enemies with House of the Dragon Monopoly, available now
By Dan Selcke
Monopoly has been a household staple for nearly a century. The board game pits friends and family against each other as they compete to snap up as much property as they can. Then charge their loved ones rent, creating inequality where there was none before, bringing long-simmering resentments to the surface, and inspiring people young and old to flip over the board and stomp out of the room. "Well, now I'm robbing the bank!" someone might say. "What do you think about that?"
If there's any way to improve this game, it's to create a new themed version modeled after a TV show where dragon-riding blonde psychopaths try and kill each other. And so we have House of the Dragon Monopoly, which has all the fun of the original Monopoly with the added implication of arson.
But seriously, House of the Dragon Monopoly sounds like a fun time. Instead of properties like Boardwalk and Park Place, you'll buy up Casterly Rock and Dragonstone. Instead of fake cash, there's fake coins. Instead of choosing between the boot and the hat, game pieces include the Lion of Lannister, the Hightower from Oldtown, a Hand of the King symbol, and...a square? What is that square at the top of this picture?
Check out the game board below. I'm a little disappointed they didn't do something with "Free Parking" or "Go to Jail," which still has a picture of a modern-ish police officer on it. Maybe "Go to the Black Cells" or something?
House of the Dragon Monopoly is on sale through Amazon now for $34.99. As for House of the Dragon itself, the show returns for its second season on HBO and Max on Sunday, June 16.
