Rumor: Disney making a show based on The Kane Chronicles, set in the Percy Jackson universe

Disney may be going all in on the work of author Rick Riordan. The Kane Chronicles is a little like Percy Jackson and the Olympians, but with Egyptian gods rather than Greek.

Late last year, Disney premiered Percy Jackson and the Olympians, a new series based on author Rick Riordan's book series about a kid, Percy Jackson, who learns he's actually the son of the Greek god Poseidon. He's whisked away to Camp Half-Blood, where he trains up with other demigods, learning more about himself and his lineage.

The books were a hit when they were coming out back in the 2000s and so was the show. Disney may be looking to double down, as Nexus Point News reports that the studio is looking to adapt The Kane Chronicles, another of Riordan's series, for the small screen.

The Kane Chronicles is a book trilogy about a pair of siblings, Carter and Sadie Kane, who find out that their family has a history with the gods of ancient Egypt. In the first book, The Red Pyramid, Carter and Sadie learn that they've become the hosts for the Egyptian gods Horus and Isis; they go on an adventure to stop the god Set from destroying North America.

It's not quite accurate to call this "Percy Jackson but Egypt" but there are obviously similarities; bright-eyed young folk learn they're related to gods from ancient mythology and go on a quest. Hey, it's a YA formula that works for Riordan, so why change it? Of note, The Kane Chronicles takes place in the same universe as the Percy Jackson books; Riordan has even written some stories where characters cross over. If Disney does adapt this series, it could have a Rick Riordan cinematic unvierse on its hands.

The Kane Chronicles were going to be turned into a series of movies by Netflix, but that plan has been scrapped. Still, the report about the Disney+ show is still just a rumor; we can't be sure of anything without more confirmation. But I can see Disney, the studio that gave us the Marvel and Star Wars cinematic universes, being interested in something like this.

While we wait for news on that, Disney is working on a second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The first aired its finale this past January, which isn't that long ago even though it feels like it's been forever. Expect the new season in 2025.
