See House of the Dragon star Gayle Rankin step out at the Met Gala

This past weekend, stars and celebrities hit the red carpet (so to speak) at the Met Gala, the annuel event in New York where the glitterati come together to show off their best duds. Each year, the gala has a different them, and designers compete to get their designs on attendees and then in front of the camera. This year's theme was "Garden of Time."

What does the mean? It means whatever the fashion designers and the people wearing their clothes want it to mean. This year, actor Gayle Rankin was in attendence, who's been pulling focus lately thanks to her turn as Sally Bowles in a new Broadway production of the classic musical Cabaret. You may also recognize her for shows like GLOW on Netflix. And we're interested in Rankin because she'll soon be appearing in the second season of House of the Dragon, which returns on HBO and Max on Sunday, May 16.

Rankin will play Alys Rivers, a serving woman at the crumbling castle of Harrenhal who moonlights as a witch, curing ailments, mixing poultices and even foretelling the future. If you're read George R.R. Martin's book Fire & Blood, you know that Alys becomes part of this story for the long haul. She's an intense, mysterious character, and Rankin definintely has the charisma to do her justice.

Plus she can wear the costumes, if her appearance at the Met Gala is any indication. Check out Rankin in her "Garden of Time" look below:

As a Riverlands peasant, Alys won't be wearing anything this opulent, but as mad woman who dreams big, she'll wear every garment as if it is. I'm looking forward to seeing what Rankin and Alys bring to the table when House of the Dragon premieres in June.
