Simu Liu confirms Shang-Chi 2 is "definitely happening"

Simu Liu made his MCU debut as Shang-Chi in 2021 in a well-received solo movie. But as for his Marvel future, nothing official has been announced yet.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021) is one of the best MCU entries in the post-Endgame era. The movie got great reviews across the board, making Simu Liu's hero among the most exciting new Avengers. However, Marvel Studios is yet to officially announce Shang-Chi 2; what's going on with that?

Well, the Marvel Studios team have had Shang-Chi in the forefront of their minds. In fact, Inverse recently reported that the next Avengers movie was originally set to have Shang-Chi in the spotlight. But with Avengers 5 moving away from The Kang Dynasty and instead becoming Doomsday, it also means that Shang-Chi's involvement may have been re-worked.

And this brings us onto the proposed Shang-Chi 2. The sequel wasn't mentioned at all in Marvel Studio's 2025 slate, or beyond. Naturally, this has led to cancellation rumors; perhaps Marvel will silently move on from the character. Thankfully, those rumors appear to be inaccurate. In a recent interview, Simu Liu was asked about the status of Shang-Chi 2, and he explained that the long-awaited sequel is still being worked on. "A lot of it is above my pay grade but it's definitely happening," he told The Press Trust of India. "So, just very excited to kind of work on it and it's going to be amazing. I really can't say anything beyond that."

MCU sequels can take a long time to hit screens. Look no further than Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which premiered a whole six years after Doctor Strange's first solo outing. Granted, Strange made plenty of appearances in the wider franchise in between solo movies.

I'm confident that Shang-Chi will get another solo outing. His first movie was immensely successful, especially taking into account that it was a pandemic release. As for how long it will take...it looks like we need to be patient.
