Star Wars: Ahsoka season 2 is happening, but won't come out for a long time
By Dan Selcke
Dragon Con went down this past week in Atlanta, Georgia, and the stars were out in force. A couple of Star Wars luminaries stopped by, including Natasha Liu Bordizzo, who plays Sabine Wren on Ahsoka, about the popular ex-Jedi character Ahsoka Tano, played by Rosario Dawson. The first season of that show bowed on Disney+ in 2023, and although it ended with a lot left unresolved, fans haven't heard anything since. Bordizzo was here to help.
Lots of folk in attendance reported that, according to Bordizzo, the second season of Ahsoka will start filming in the summer of 2025, after filming is complete on the new movie The Mandalorian & Grogu, meaning we probalby won't see new episodes of it until 2026.
The Mandalorian & Grogu, of course, is based on the show The Mandalorian, on which Ahsoka Tano has guest starred. She's also been in The Book of Boba Fett, which also guest-starred Din Djarin, the main character from The Mandalorian. All of these Disney+ Star Wars shows are wrapped up in each other. The first season of Ahsoka ended with the villain Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) zipping back to the galaxy far, far away to harass the people there. I wouldn't be surprised if the plot of The Mandalorian & Grogu involved fighting against him, another tie-in.
Disney is perhaps hoping that this will take the sting out of having to wait three years for new episodes of Ahsoka; after all, we'll probably see Ahsoka herself before then, even if we won't see her on her own show. An issue with modern tentpole TV is that fans often have to wait multiple years between new seasons of their favorite shows, whether it's Star Wars or House of the Dragon or The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Disney's solution seems to be continuing the story of one show in another, so that events progress even if this or that show is on a break.
Whether this is a successful strategy is another question entirely. It can be confusing and annoying to have to follow multiple shows and movies in order to catch up on the plot. So we'll see if Disney's gamble pays off.
What does Manny Jacinto want to do with his career? "The Acolyte Season 2."
Meanwhile, Disney has canceled its newest Star Wars show The Acolyte, which was doing its own thing and not connected to series like The Mandalorian or Ahsoka. The first season of The Acolyte also ended with much left unresolved, but unless a miracle happens, we'll never see what was going to come next.
The cast, crew, and fans remain upset about that. Manny Jacinto, who played the mysterious Sith lord Qimir, was also at Dragoncon. According to Collider, he was asked about his career goals and had one simple thing to say: "The Acolyte Season 2."
Star Lee Jung-jae (Jedi Master Sol) is also holding out hope for an Acolyte revival, and I guess stranger things have happened, but my prediction is that this show will fade into the background.
