Steve Toussaint would love to play Corlys Velaryon in House of the Dragon spinoff The Sea Snake

HBO is still tinkering with the idea of a House of the Dragon spinoff about the younger days of Corlys Velaryon. Apparently it would be an animated show.

House of the Dragon is the rare TV spinoff that seems to be getting as much or more attention as its progenitor show. Game of Thrones was a pop culture phenomenon, but House of the Dragon has been no slouch; there's a lot of excitement for its second season, which premieres on Sunday, June 16. Maybe it could even get its own spinoff one day?

One has already been discussed. HBO has been kicking around the idea of a spinoff starring Steve Toussaint's character Corlys Velaryon, the richest man in Westeros at the time of House of the Dragon. He got so wealthy by making a series of darking sea voyages in his youth, bringing back the richest of faraway nations to Westeros. The Sea Snake would focus on that period of his life.

It's hard to tell exactly how serious HBO is about making The Sea Snake, but Toussaint would absolutely be on board if it went ahead. “I would gladly do that,” he told Inverse. “The last time I saw [Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin] was a couple of years ago, and he was the one that told me that they were now thinking about doing it as animation.”

If the show was animated, it could allow Toussaint to voice the character even though he's be much younger in the spinoff. “People had said to me, ‘Hey great, they're doing a series about your character.’ And I would often say, ‘Well, it’s his younger days and I can no longer play 21 — not feasibly anyway." Eve Best, who plays Corlys' wife Rhaenys Targaryen, would also be happy to jon the party. “Does she come along?” she asked. “I hope that she gets her nose in somewhere.”

At one point, The Sea Snake was going to be a live-action show. Now apparently they're considering making it animated. It may well never make it to air; plenty of spinoff ideas die on the vine. There have even been a couple of Game of Thrones ideas that have been shot down, including a Jon Snow spinoff starring Kit Harington and a show called Blood Moon, for which HBO shot a whole pilot before deciding not to go forward.

As of now, the only Game of Thrones spinoffs we know are coming are House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which is set to air on Max next year. At this point, Toussaint doesn't know if The Sea Snake will ever join those ranks. “It's above my pay grade...I would love to do it, if it ever happens.”
