Stranger Things aired its most recent season in 2022, ending on a massive cliffhanger. After seemingly defeating Vecna, the all-powerful entity from the Upside Down, our core group of heroed reunited in the sleepy town of Hawkins, IN to find that the monster-infested landscape was leaking into the real world, a code red situation! Looking ahead to the final season, the stakes are as high as ever, and the cast are teasing some epic twists to come.

Stranger Things 5, the final season of the show, returned to production in January after a tough and delay-filled 2023, which hindered progress on the final installment and likely pushed its release back to 2025. But as the cast is learning more about what's in store after reading the scripts, they're all very excited. Take Maya Hawke (Robin), who knows the secrets that will unravel in the upcoming episodes.

"I do know what happens before then and it’s extremely exciting. It’s always wonderful when the kind of riddle of a world that gets built, starts to get resolved and questions start to be answered," she told Collider. "I think it was mind-bogglingly wonderful for me and I think audiences will feel that way too. It’s really an emotional thing to go into filming this last season, so I’m excited."

Robin was a key figure in season 3 and goes on to be a vital part of the team in season 4. What's in store for season 5? We'll have to wait and see, but given that she knows many of the key events to come, it's likely that she'll play a big role in the show's endgame.

Joseph Quinn weighs in on whether he'll return to Stranger Things

Speaking of characters returning in Stranger Things season 5, fans are desperate to know whether Joseph Quinn's beloved hero Eddie Munson — leader of the Hellfire Club — will return to our screens. Of course, we all know that Eddie was killed in the season 4 finale, but this is sci-fi; there's always a way to bring someone back from the dead.

In a video at the Facts Convention shared by @JQuinnSourceUK on X, Quinn answered questions about whether he'll reprise his role in the final season. His answer was... interesting. "I do know, but I'm not telling you," he said. Honestly, this is as good a response as we could hope for; he neither confirms nor denies.

Finn Wolfhard (Mike) wants a "Lord of the Rings-style happy ending" for Stranger Things

Finally, star Finn Wolfhard, who has played Mike Wheeler since the very first episode of the show, talked to Access Online about what he'd like to see from the ending of Stranger Things:

"Truly, I would love a Lord of the Rings style happy ending. They’re waiting to give us the last episode, we’ve read up to the second-to-last episode so we’re all on the edge of our seats to find out what the ending is."

The Lord of the Rings does end more or less happily, with the Hobbits returning to their home in the Shire older and wiser thanks to their journey. As for not knowing the ending yet, it's unclear if that's changed since the time Wolfhard gave this interview.

Stranger Things 5 is expected to return sometime in 2025. In the meantime, we'll continue to read any and all fan theories!
