Sure, Jared Padalecki would star on The Boys, but only if he can look good naked
By Dan Selcke
For 15 seasons, Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles starred as demon-hunting brothers Sam and Dean Winchester on Supernatural, a show created by Eric Kripke. After that much time in the trenches, the actors are obviously close. So when Jensen appeared on Kripke's new show The Boys, fans wondered if Padalecki might follow.
As it ends up, Kripke has reached out to Padalecki about it, but the Walker star has a reservation: he would need to ripped first. "[M]y response to him 90% of the time is, 'Dude, I’m 41 now with three kids. I’m not 25 and working out three hours a day,'" Padalecki revealed to Collider. "'I know you’re going to f**king make me get naked, so give me a heads-up. I’m in, but let me get a nutritionist and a trainer and get in the hyperbaric chamber for eight months before you make me show up.'"
"But yeah, it would obviously be a lot of fun to see Kripke again and to work on that show, which is a great show that I’m a fan of."
It's true that Padalecki spent a lot of time on Supernatural walking around shirtless. That show ran on The CW; it's important to know your audience. On The Boys, Jensen Ackles plays a violent superhero named Soldier Boy, and sure enough, his first scene required him to be 100% naked, so Padalecki's concerns aren't coming from nowhere.
Jared Padalecki isn't sure he'd want his family to see what he'd do on The Boys
And Padalecki has other concerns about appearing on a show like The Boys in particular. It's a superhero show, but it doesn't keep things PG like the Marvel series do over on Disney+. In the world of The Boys, superheroes are more of than not violent sociopaths with all kinds of depraved appetites. To give you an idea of what I mean, the third season opens with a scene where an Ant-Man-like superhero shrinks down to a tiny size and crawls inside his lover's member. While he there, he sneezes on some cocaine, which causes him to suddenly balloon to his normal size and explode out the front of his boyfriend. I still don't think the show that topped that scene when it comes to pure "what the f**k," but I think it wants to, which should tell you what sort of series this is.
What might Kripke have Padalecki do if he cast him on The Boys? It's anybody's guess, which has the actor worried. “I love watching it but imagine putting yourself in it. I’ve got kids. My mom and dad are still alive. I’ve got grandparents that are alive. I don’t know how to just unplug their electricity when the show airs," he joked.
Unless he's playing very coy, it's unlikely that Padalecki will appear in the upcoming fourth season of The Boys, which kicks off on Thursday, June 13; the first three episodes are dropping all at once, with the remaining five to come out at a rate of one per week after that. But after that, who knows? Take the plunge, Padalecki! What's the worst that could happen...?
