House of the Dragon season 2

The fifth episode of the second season of House of the Dragon, "Regent," is in the can, and it was...okay. There were some solid scenes, but this probably isn't the episode that will come to mind when the season is over and we're thinking back on our favorite moments.

What exactly do we mean? We break it all down on a new episode of Take the Black, out twice-a-week chat show. On Wednesday, we convene to talk about all things sci-fi, fantasy, movies, TV and books. And on Sunday nights, we come together after each new episode of House of the Dragon to break it down in detail. Watch our latest below!

We're not complete haters; we liked the emotional scene between Baela Targaryen and her grandfather Corlys, we enjoyed the opening scenes where the head of the dragon Meleys through the streets of King's Landing, and we enjoyed a lot of scenes between the members of Team Green. The scenes with Daemon Targaryen, on the other hand, drag in a big way, and we're having trouble wrapping our heads around what the writers think they're getting out of taking a character who's set up as exciting and dangerous and making him seem incompetent and ineffective. It's kind of bumming us out.

In fact, the whole episode lacked a bit of movement and energy. It seemed to set up a lot of things that didn't pay off, at least not yet. After last week's thrilling entry, we can probably forgive a bit of a breather. Just don't let it last too long, alright?
