Take the Black: House of the Dragon season 3 setup/Is Ryan Reynolds an artist?

Is Deadpool & Wolverine a Ryan Reynolds passion project or a winking homunculus made of equal parts earnest artistic ambition and profit-driven cynicism? Just normal topics on today's pod:

Welcome to a very special episode of Take the Black, where we talk about all things sci-fi, fantasy, movies, books and TV. We hit some of our usual topics in this episode, as well as a few unusual ones. Check out the new installment below!

We start by talking about the future of House of the Dragon, from a couple of different angles. First, we notice that the second season is setting up a few things that aren't going to be important until quite a ways down the line. Good going. And then I start spiraling and worry that the slackened pacing for the second season will cause people to lose interest and put the show at risk of cancelation before it has a chance to finish the story. I need something to distract me.

Thankfully, we soon segue into a discussion of Deadpool & Wolverine, where things get strange. Somehow, we find ourselves on a tangent about Ryan Reynolds' merits as an artist, the nigh-impossibility of separating art from commerce in the age of Big IP, and whether celebrities have a responsiblity to push the envelope. I don't know how exactly we got on this, and I'm vaguely scared I sound crazy, but I'm glad it will live on the internet forever.

We also find time to talk a bit about the upcoming second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and Resident Alien before wrapping up with a spirited installment of the WiC News Lightning Round. Also, I apologize for sounding a bit quiet during this show. We were having some audio problems we'll hopefully have fixed soon.
