If there's one thing that The Boys never fails to achieve, it's making new seasons crazier, filthier and all-around more chaotic. Whether it's the infamous Herogasm or that Termite scene, the vulgarity always seems to get dialled up to 11. Looking ahead to season 4, things are about to get absolutely insane.
Season 4 premieres on Prime Video on June 13. In this season, the world is closer to collapse than ever before. Victoria Neuman moves closer to the Oval Office, with Homelander becoming ever more unstable and megalomaniacal. Meanwhile, Billy Butcher, ostracized fromThe Boys, must work on bringing the team back together. The new season also stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan. From his time on Watchmen and The Walking Dead, we know that when he's involved in something, there's almost always chaos afoot:
During a recent interview with Collider, Jack Quaid (Hughie) weighed in on the new season, deeming it his favorite yet. Beyond the vulgarity and violence, but the story has always been compelling enough to keep viewers invested. "This is my favorite season that we’ve ever done. The writers have topped themselves," he said. "There are certain things in this season when I read them that I audibly gasped." As for the ending, well, it sounds like the show is saving the best for last. "The ending is awesome. The ending is f*cking nuts. It’s insane. I’m talking about The Boys, so I can swear."
So what can we expect from The Boys season 4? Well, if we look at the comics, there's plenty of insane and savage moments. Yes, I'm talking specifically about the scene when (SPOILER) Homelander quite literally eats a baby. If this ever plays out, it'll make for some terribly distressing television.
Jack Quaid teases "Campbell family chaos" in The Boys season 4
Quaid also talked about about Hughie's relationships, including with his superhero girlfriend Starlight, who officially joined the Boys team at the end of season 3. "This season, they're the closest they’ve ever been," he said. That marks a change for them, since the pair has been through their share of ups and downs. "I think it needed to happen. When you go through moments like that and you survive them, you come out so much stronger. So, I think Annie and Hughie are stronger than they’ve ever been this season, which I love seeing."
We'll also see more of Hughie's parents this season, not just his slacker dad, played by Simon Pegg, but his unnamed mother, played by Rosemarie DeWitt. "We had a blast," Quaid told Entertaiment Weekly of working with the two actors. "We became a weird family. I'm very excited for audiences to see the Campbell family chaos this year because it's pretty great."
Eric Kripke teases all-new Supe, Firecracker!
With a new season of The Boys comes an all-new Supe, Firecracker, played by Valorie Curry. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Eric Kripke teased the new Supe, describing her as extremely right-wing and pathologically nasty. So basically, she's just about as despicable as every other character.
""Firecracker represents both members of the conspiracy-minded movements and the super extreme right-wing news media. That character has some surprising backstory that connects her to some of the characters in our world that it was just interesting to bring in one of those pistol-packing 'I shot my puppies' type of characters.""
Jack Quaid is particularly excited by the introduction of Firecracker and her accomplice Sister Sage (Susan Heyward). "They’re both wonderful," he said. "Their characters are so insane. They change things up in a very dramatic way, and I’m very excited for audiences to see exactly where that goes because it’s a really interesting thread."
The Boys season 4 will kick off on Prime Video on June 13.
