The CW cancels Walker (bad), which means Jared Paledecki can be on The Boys (good)

CW posterboy Jared Paledecki no longer has a home on The CW, but this does clear the way for him to join his Supernatural family over on The Boys.

The CW has been taking a blowtorch to its scripted programming for a while now, and that rampage continues today: after four seasons, cowboy justice show Walker has been canceled.

Star Jared Paledecki shared the news on Instagram: "It is with a heavy heart that I share this news with you. #Walker will not be airing on [the] CW for a fifth season. It's a tough piece of news to be sure, but we are SO thankful for the #WalkerFamily that has been built, both on set and off. After four seasons together, we have felt the love and support from the entire #WalkerFamily, and we will be forever grateful."

Padalecki has been a CW staple for literally decades, starring as Rory's boyfriend Dean on The Gilmore Girls, which began back when the CW was called the WB, and playing paranormal detective Sam Winchester for 15 freaking seasons on Supernatural. It felt natural tuning into The CW and seeing him on Walker, a reboot of the 1990s series Walker, Texas Ranger. I feel for the fans.

However, this does pave the way for Padalecki to appear on the Prime Video superhero show The Boys, which was created by Erik Kripke, who also made Supernatural. Padalecki's Supernatural costar Jensen Ackles already appeared on The Boys as Soldier Boy, a violent, jingoistic parody of Captain America. It would be fun to see the Supernatural guys back in action as completely different kinds of characters.

Kripke thinks so too, and expressed his hopes to Entertainment Weekly mere days before we learned about Walker's cancellation. "Texts have been sent," he said. "I feel like it would be a bummer to not have Jared on the show one way or another at this point, even if it's just the one-episode thing. He's been shooting Walker, but with that show wrapping up, maybe he'll have some time to come in and play with us. I would love it. We have definitely talked about it."

Kripke, did you have something to do with Walker getting the axe? Probably not; The CW hasn't needed the help.

The fourth season of The Boys will premiere on Prime Video on Thursday, June 13. Three episodes will drop at once and then be released at a rate of one per week. Padalecki obviously won't be in this season, but the next?
