We're three episodes deep into the second season of House of the Dragon, and although characters keep warning us that we're in a war, we have yet to see any major battles. We caught a glimpse of one in the latest episode, "The Burning Mill," but the upcoming fourth episode of the season will raise the stakes considerably. Check out the trailer above!
It sounds like Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy), having exhausted her options to bring her conflict with her half-brother King Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) to a peaceful resolution, is finally ready to let slip loose the dogs of war...well, dragons of war. That's quite a bit worse, really. "I needed to know that there was no other path. And now I do" she says. "We must send the dragons to war."
Meanwhile, Aegon mounts his dragon Sunfyre, known as the most beautiful dragon in the Seven Kingdoms; while his younger brother Aemond mounts up on Vhagar, the biggest and meanest. And remember: Criston Cole has led an army out of King's Landing with the intent of capturing and turning castles loyal to Rhaenyra. All of this is leading up to a clash of dragons, which we get a glimpse of in the trailer.
We expect the fourth episode to revolve around a battle that readers of George R.R. Martin's book Fire & Blood will be familiar with: the Battle of Rook's Rest, which we know the cast and crew spent a long time filming. That will be the main ticket item, but it looks like we'll also get another dream sequence with Daemon Targaryen; there's a brief shot of him in the Iron Throne room, and there's no way for him to get there in the waking world right now.
New episodes of House of the Dragon air Sunday nights on HBO and Max.
