The first 3 episodes of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 will drop at once
By Dan Selcke
Prime Video is readying the second season of The Rings of Power, its phenomenally expensive Lord of the Rings prequel series. The first season made a splash when it aired in 2022. Can the second blow things up to the next level?
We'll find out when the new episodes start to drop on Thursday, August 29. In a press release, Prime Video confirmed that the first three episodes will drop together, setting up a binge for fans.
Releasing the first three episodes of a new season of TV is pretty standard for Prime Video; just did it just recently with the fourth season of The Boys, for example. Personally, I wish Amazon would stretch these things out a bit more, particularly since the new season only has eight episodes. The whole season will be over is a month and change. It seems like they're giving themselves less time to build an audience. But that's just my two cents; Jeff Bezos will do what Jeff Bezos likes.

Prime Video is currently ramping up the marketing for The Rings of Power season 2. According to showrunner Patrick McKay, the team has a five-year plan for the show, which is set thousands of years before The Rings of the Rings story most of us know; the likes of Bilbo, Frodo and Aragorn won't be born for many centuries yet. I get the idea that the reception to season 2 could determine whether seasons 3 and beyond come to pass, so there's a lot riding on the next handful of weeks.
