The House of the Dragon season 2 finale has leaked
By Dan Selcke
The season 2 finale of House of the Dragon, which will air on HBO and Max this Sunday night at 8:00 p.m. CST, has leaked. Or rather, several scenes from the episode have leaked. As of this writing, there doesn't seem to be a full version of the episode out there, but there are individual scenes floating around on TikTok, X/Twitter and Reddit, and people are sharing spoilers liberally. If you want to go into the finale fresh, best tread lightly over the next several days.
According to Variety, the scenes first appeared on a TikTok account which has since been banned. But once something is on the internet, it's hard to remove it completely, and you can probably watch them if you look. We're not going to tell you where they are, because we do not approve of piracy and want HBO to keep sending us screeners, but we won't deny that they're out there; the cat's out of the bag at this point.
It's unclear at this point who leaked the episode. HBO has been sending advance episodes to critics all season, for which I am very grateful, but they did not give us the finale, so it couldn't have been any of us.
Interestingly, something very similar happened in 2022 with the season 1 finale of House of the Dragon. In fact, leaks have been pretty common across both House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones before it. I guess you could interpret this as a compliment since everyone apparently wants to watch the new episode so bad they're willing to steal it, but somehow I doubt HBO sees it that way.
Although it's possible we don't know of everything that's out there, the various clips add up to around 30 minutes of footage. That's well short of half of the finale episode's runtime; at 73 minutes, it's the longest episode of the show yet produced.
So maybe the episode will still have some secrets to share come Sunday. Or maybe the rest will leak out between now and then.
UPDATE: Here's HBO's statement on the matter:
"We are aware that clips from the House of the Dragon season finale have surfaced across social media platforms. The clips were posted after an unintentional release from an international third-party distributor. HBO is aggressively monitoring and removing clips from the internet, and fans can watch the episode in its entirety this Sunday night on HBO and Max."
