The Last of Us picks up 8 Creative Arts Emmys, House of the Dragon gets 1
By Dan Selcke
The 75th Annual Emmy Awards, which reward the best in TV, were originally supposed to air in 2023, but because of the actors and writers strikes, they were delayed until now. The Emmys proper will air on Fox next Monday, January 15. But this weekend, we got to watch the Creative Arts Emmys, which honor the people behind the scenes of our favorite shows: you won't find the Best Actor or Best Drama awards given out here. But there are awards for Best Guest Actor, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, and so on.
Generally speaking, the Creative Arts Emmys are considered to be the "technical" awards. That's a little patronizing to the recipients, since it's implied that the televised show is the "real" Emmys while these are the also-rans, but it is how it is.
So how did the Creative Arts Emmys go? Well, HBO's The Last of Us was the clear winner, pocketing eight awards, including for visual effects, picture editing, sound editing, and both Outstanding Guest Actor and Guest Acress in a Drama, for Nick Offerman and Storm Reid respectively. TV shows The Bear, Wednesday and The White Lotus took home four awards apiece.
Meanwhile, HBO's Game of Thrones prequel show House of the Dragon -- the first season of which aired so long ago it's weird to see it as part of this award show -- only took one one award, for Outstanding Fantasy Costumes. See the full list below:
