The Lord of the Rings extended trilogy is returning to theaters this June!
By Daniel Roman
Amazing news for The Lord of the Rings fans! Peter Jackson's iconic film trilogy will return to movie theaters this June. So gather your band of friends, clan of children or whomever else you want in your fellowship, and get ready to go back to Middle-earth this summer!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, this special event is being hosted by Warner Bros. and Fathom Events, which is the same company that was behind the limited theatrical re-release of David Lynch's 1984 Dune movie during the lead up to Dune: Part Two. The Lord of the Rings movies will screen one per day, with The Fellowship of the Ring on June 8, The Two Towers on June 9, and The Return of the King on June 10.
What's more, these screenings will be showing the extended editions, which are the ideal way to watch The Lord of the Rings. Plus, they're the remastered versions of the movies which were created for the 4K UHD Ultra release of the films in 2020. So these Lord of the Rings screenings will have all the extra scenes, and they'll look and sound amazing.
The Lord of the Rings will be in participating Fathom Events theater chains, like AMC and Regal. You can find your closest participating theater and purchase tickets at the Fathom Events website.
Season 2 of Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is also expected to release sometime this year, but seeing as we don't have a release date for it yet, a theatrical re-release of Jackson's films is just as exciting in my book. If you've never seen these movies in theaters — or if you have seen them 110 times, but yearn in your hobbity heart for a hundred-and-eleventh trip to Bilbo's auspicious birthday party — then this is not an opportunity you'll want to miss.
