The Neverending Story is getting new movie reboot
These days, it seems like remakes of classic movies are never-ending, and the trend continues with a new version of The Neverending Story.

Some of the biggest fantasy franchises of all time are returning to our screens in the next few years. There's a series of Narnia movies in the pipeline at Netflix, a Harry Potter reboot at Max, and now a new version of The Neverending Story in the works.
Like The Chrinicles of Narnia, the fantasy novel The Neverending Story — written by author Michael Ende and published in 1979 — has already had a beloved big screen adaptation. Released back in 1984, the movie has become a cult classic; a lovely, wholesome, thrilling family adventure. Set in the fantastical, dragon-filled world of Fantastica, it follows schoolboy Bastian, who inexplicably finds himself tangled up in a war.
That movie was followed up by two sequels, but they failed to capture the magic of the original, and have faded away into obscurity. However, with the reboot, See-Saw Films hopes to rejuvenate the franchise.
The new Neverending Story movie is still very early in development. No filming date has been set, nor have any cast members been revealed. Variety reports that Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Roman Hocke and Ralph Gassmann are all down as producers.
“The story is both timely and timeless, and really has an opportunity to be told in a fresh way,” Canning said in a statement. “And part of the specialness of the book is that you can go back to it at different ages in your life and find different levels of meaning. So how wonderful that we have this opportunity to do a fresh perspective that will have new layers and meanings. We just believe that every generation deserves their own journey into Fantastica.”
"The journey, in many ways, starts now. There’s been a lot of anticipation from people who love this story about what the next steps would be. For us, we now need to speak to writers and directors and hear their passion for the material."
No release date has been set yet. While we're waiting, we can all go back and read the original book. Or harken back to Stranger Things season 3 where Dustin and Suzie performed a wonderful rendition of the movie's theme song.
The remake has a tough act to follow.
