The Rings of Power season 2 has "much grander" battle scenes
By Ashley Hurst
From the Battle of the Five Armies to the Battle of Helms Deep to the Battle of the Morannon, Middle-earth has played host to some of the greatest battles in fantasy history. And there's plenty more on the way. In the upcoming season of Prime Video's Lord of the Rings prequel series, The Rings of Power, the battles will be much more epic in scale than what we saw in season 1!
It's easy to forget that The Rings of Power season 2 is set to come out later this year. Of course, with all the House of the Dragon hype, HBO's show has been in the forefront of our minds. However, despite mixed reviews of its first season, the cast and crew of The Rings of Power are promising a significantly more epic second outing, with battles that dwarf what we saw before.
Season 1 set the board and got the pieces moving; season 2 is where things start to get chaotic. We now know that the identity of Sauron is the human Halbrand (Charlie Vickers), and he is establishing his power across Middle-earth. In season 2, expect his rise to power to culminate in some epic battles.
Speaking to Total Film, showrunners Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne teased the next huge battle. "This time, Sauron’s agenda sets everything in motion: Adar (Sam Hazeldine , taking over the role from Joseph Mawle) and his army of orcs; Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), Elrond (Robert Aramayo]) and Gil-galad (Benjamin Walker) and their armies of elves –all of which will come crashing together in the most ambitious battle our show has seen yet, a battle from which many big players may not make it out alive," they said.
Moreover, McKay recently explained to Empire what makes season 2's battles stand out from the crowd. "We love a good battle," he said. "The plan with Season 2 would be to do something much bigger, on a much grander scale that would take place not just overnight, but over multiple days, weeks, months, and episodes."
""Things have taken a very intense turn since Sauron is back and moving the chess pieces around the board. So we get to have a different kind of action and see Middle-earth in some terrifying moments.""
In addition to teasing the huge battle to come, the Empire report also featured an image from the new season, showing us a glimpse of Elrond (Robert Aramayo) in the midst of war. Take a look:
