The Rings of Power star Markella Kavenagh tells us about Nori's journey ahead
By Dan Selcke
The second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power ended with a series of resolutions...and new beginnings. For Nori, the plucky harfoot played by Markella Kavenagh, it ended with her becoming a leader. She spent the first season wanting to see the world, in the second she traveled to the far land of Rhûn with the Stranger, and now she's going to lead a band of Stoors on a pilgrimage. Where they'll end up, no one knows (although if you're familiar with the original Lord of the Rings story you may have a guess).
We got a chance to talk to Kavenagh about Nori's new role. "I think she's built up to this moment where she's able to kind of take the reins a little bit more on what her future holds," she told us, "in the sense that she has always wanted to go out on her own and she's always wanted to explore the unknown and this is a really amazing opportunity to do so with the support and the validation of acknowledging that her instincts were correct and that there is more out there and that there is something that can potentially help her and the harfoots find a home at some point in the future. So I really do think that it's the right time for her to do that, and to honor what she's always been searching for and what she's always thought was impossible."
Unfortunately, this means that Nori had to say goodbye to the Stranger, whose identity we finally learned. Honestly, I could have used more scenes between the two of them this season — that plotline wasn't the same after they got separated — but I'm excited to see Nori embark on a new adventure.
Unfortunately, we probably won't see what exactly she gets up to for a good long while; there was a two-year gap between the first and second seasons of The Rings of Power, and Amazon hasn't even officially confirmed that a third is on the way yet (although the cast and crew all sound very bullish on the matter). Until then, you can watch both available seasons of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Amazon Prime Video.
