The Sandman star teases "incredible stories" coming in season 2
By Ashley Hurst
Kirby Howell-Baptiste made her debut as Death of the Endless in The Sandman Episode 6, "The Sound of Her Wings." Despite only appearing in the first half of the episode, she made a big impression, taking her brother Dream along with her as she performed her duties as Death, escorting people to the afterlife. Her warm, bubbly personality — and the way she teases the dour Dream — went down brilliantly with viewers, and everyone can't wait to see her return.
The second season of The Sandman on Netflix will get deeper into The Sandman comic by Neil Gaiman, which means that Death won't just be making cameo appearances; she'll be a key character. In fact, we'll meet all of the Endless siblings, including Destiny, Destruction and Delirium. "Death is a large part of this season and there are some incredible stories with the family that I'm very, very excited for fans to see,” Kirby Howell-Baptiste told Collider.
Additionally, she explained that the show's creators, including Gaiman himself, have been taking on board comments from fans. They're very engaged in the community. “It's been fantastic going back actually, because this season, I think fans will be very excited for the episodes," Howell-Baptiste said. "It feels like the show is a two-way street, it's not just us putting something out, it's Neil listening, responding to the fans, and then in turn giving them the things that they are asking for, yelling for, begging for."
"So I think fans are gonna be really excited to have these stories expanded and have the complexities, and the family and, and all of those dynamics, see them even more this season, this continuation of episodes.
"
There's one scene in particular that everyone can't wait to see play out, in which all the Endless siblings are called together for a family meeting. And that's just one moment. Prepare for a lot more Death in season 2, in a good way.
We don't know every story the new season will cover. Currently, we know it will adapt the Season of Mists and Brief Lives volumes of the comic, as well as other standalone stories. But they could have some more surprises in store, too, like how season 1 had a bonus episode!
The Sandman season 2 is still in production. The new season is estimated to air on Netflix sometime in 2025. Watch this space.
